My Canon HF11 uses SDHC cards. I love this because I can take still frames so easily from the video without having to go back and forth between tape and card media. I look forward to this feature becoming more common and less expensive.

The only downfall is the price of the cards compared to the HDV tapes.

How much HD footage fits on 16GB? Is it like an hour? Or a few hours? Enough for a full weekend - or do you always bring extra cards?

I believe that each hour of HD footage takes up about 13 GB. The nice thing about recording on SD cards is that you can usually delete unwanted footage off the cards right from the camera to free up some space.

What I do is bring my laptop with me and empty the cards onto my external hard drive at night if need be.

Sounds good. I am thinking we will buy a couple extra SD cards, just to have around regardless.
