Was wondering if anyone has ever had a camera stolen that was locked to a tree? I have a lock (masterlock) and the metal box, but I'm worried being on public land that someone could still steal it.

I lock mine on our private property with Master Python cables. I don't think I would have a problem with thieves, but in this day and age, you never know what low-life trespasser will be roaming where they KNOW they aren't welcome.

I would have to think long and hard before I even posted cameras on public land. If someone wants to steal something bad enough, they will get it, no matter how secure you have it. It's sad, I know, but that's the society we live in now.

You better hide it good. Very deep in public land if you want it to be a little more safe. I think almost everyone that runs cameras has had one stolen before.

I personally would never put a camera on public land but if I did I would use a shrouded padlock. At least that would slow them down a good bit. But still, even if they didn't take it, they might become so frustrated they might just destroy it. Either way you'd be out a camera.

I would say use a cheap camera that you wouldnt be out to much if they did steal it. Will still do the job.

My grandfather always told me a lock only keeps an honest man out.

This is what I do. Even if they find it they can't get it.

I had one stolen that was in a lock box with a python lock so basically if they want it they'll get it. I think the best thing to do is get a small camera and hang it high in a tree to keep it out of sight. I like the Mp6 for the small size and it's camo so it hides really well. Keeping them hidden is the best solution to keep from having them stolen.
