Do any of you feel your cameras are scaring deer away? I'm begining to feel they do to a point, I got a set of shots last night that lead me to believe so.
There is no blanket answer for this question. It does bother some deer and not others. Putting food or something else down that distract the deer will cause them to completely ignore the camera most of the time. I have found that running the camera in the video mode attracts much more attention due to the prolonged flash. Blessings........Pastorjim
If you think this is happening a Black out camera is the way to go. Personally I agree with Pastorjim every deer is different in how they react to something in their house that doesn't belong there.
I agree with some deer being scared and some not, my oldest buck I call splitter, figure him at five and half doesn't mind his pic being taken at all but there are some does that seem to bolt and the red glow. I am going to black flash from now on for that reason. Scoot
I find most of my deer that pay any attention to them at all typically approach the camera to check it out. I must have 1,000 pics of close up noses, eyes, ears etc. Many of them make for pretty funny pics. Actually sounds like a good thread starter. Deer snot on my lenses... or something along those lines lol
my deer before season rolls in aint scared of nothing. there are oil wells all over my 160 acers and there are constaintly oil field trucks driving into my property and the deer dont mind untill after first shotgun season and they are scared of everything. my camera has the red glow and i have alot of pictures of ears and noses but i had alot more before shotgun season
Alot has to do with flash duration like in video mode or multi flash mode. Seems like mature bucks tolerate very little in high hunter density areas flash bulbs seem to be one of them, good news is there are a couple of things you can do... Get the cam up 6-8 foot off the ground and out of the deer direct line of sight. flash duration or multi flash mode or you can get a black flash for video if thats your cup of tea and for multi pic turn the cam to single pic and then play the trigger times until your happy with the results Try some walk by test during this off season and fine tune your cams. Next up I am a big believer in scent control around cams and even spray the cam and anything I touch with scent killer as i leave the cam as well as spray some vanilla scent spray on the ground where i want the deer to stop at,the stuff works Just maybe the deer comes in and smells a little human Odor the he picks up on the flash and he not waiting around for whats next. Few things high on my list is the use of black flash cams and ez-cam mount to mount the cam to the tree and angle it down sometimes I even put the cam on a low hanging branch away from the base of the tree with the ez-cam mount.
