Both the GL1 and GL2 are standard Def only. Most people have switched from the standard def. 480 to HD at 1080. It is also uses MiniDV tapes, which work just fine, but they do take longer to capture the video from the camera and require some special hardware that most computers don't have. They use firewire, which has all but gone away(unless your a Mac user). You can still buy a card to install in the computer though. Most newer cameras are using SD cards to store the video which basically eliminates the need to capture the video and speeds up the editing process.

Are you thinking of buying one, or do you already have one? If you are thinking of buying, what's the price?

Yes I am gonna purchase a camera there are tons to choose from It could be years if I have to research all of them... Lol... I don't have a set amount I wanna spend probably 2000$ or less but all of my hunting equipment etc is great quality so I see no reason to purchase a " just good enuf" camera... Hardest part is what the heck one to buy... Thank you

I know a lot of the BHoD team use the Canon XA10. They just came out with the XA20 and I heard a few have upgraded already. I would look at both if those models.

Ok, with that info, I would suggest a newer, HD model camera. You can get more for less as the technology progresses. I bought an Canon XHA1S last year that came with a tree arm, fluid head, tripod w. fluid head, wireless mic, 2 wired remotes, shotgun mic, extra batteries and a rain hood. All for about $2100. That's a professional HD camera with quality accessories. It was not the newest technology, but say 1 generation removed. That camera new was about 4K. I took the risk and bought it on Ebay, but was lucky and everything was as described and in good working order. If you don't want to risk it, you might look at this package deal. It would be a very nice set up. I know a couple guys that have this Xa10 and it is a sweet camera. I love the display screen, way larger and sharper than what I have on the XHA1S.

I am new to filming and picked up a GL2 April of 2012 and have been using it since. If I could afford it I would upgrade to HD for sure, but can't at the moment so I make do with what I have. But like others said, go HD!
