Hey guys,l ookin for a camera to start recording my own hunts. Im looking at the canon vixia r500. Would this be good or should I look at another camera? I know I will need a tree arm and a shotgun mic. Is there anything else I should look for?

The r500 should be good to start with. Start small and then build from there. I would not worry about the shotgun mic off the bat. get the basics down first and decide if you want to invest further. If so use the r500 for a secondary and upgrade from there. The down side to the r500 will be low light performance due to the sensor size but it will give you an idea if this is something you want to do. It would suck to drop 3000 to figure out you don't enjoy it.
