I'm going to be buying a Hoyt CRX 32 tomorrow or friday and I'm not sure which cam to shoot. My draw length is 28.5". The cam 2 on the CRX goes from 26"-28" and the cam 3 goes from 28"-30". Do I want to shorten my draw length half of an inch and get the peak performance from the cam 2 or lengthen my draw half an inch and get mid performance from the cam 3? The guy I'm dealing with at my local shop thinks I should go with the cam 2 at 28" and get peak performance from it, but I would like a second opinion. I appreciate any thoughts/opinions. Below is the chart from Hoyt's website. http://www.hoyt.com/assets/tune_charts/PE-9999-140-CRX32-Tune-Chart.pdf
from what i have read and hear. the #3 cam while also make it a smoother bow. i also hear the the draw length is a little off on these cams possible + 1/8 to 1/4" so i would keep that in mind. please someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'll try to find the article and post it for you. imo, i am a sucker for speed. i would get the #2 cam.
Have you shot one??? If not, go to a shop and shoot one set at 28 and 28.5" and see for yourself. The performance is gonna be pretty decent either way. Hoyt is probably the ONE brand that hits as CLOSE to the advertised IBO as any. I read a couple UNBIASED reports that rated the Alphaburner as 12 fps faster than the Bear Bow that was rate 3fps faster, and it was 15 fps faster than a Z7 which is only 7fps slower according to IBO rating.
Are you a 28.5 with our without a d-loop (if you shoot one)? The draw length setting won't make as much of a difference in how the bow performs as will shooting it as close as possible to the peak draw weight.
Are you 28.5 with or without a loop? If you are a measured 28.5, (without a loop, just plain measurement) and you normally shoot a loop, then you should shoot the 2 cam with a loop. If you are saying that your current bow is set at 28.5 and you shoot a loop then you are really a 29" draw and you should set your new bow up with the 3 cam. Just my .02 cents. In short terms, your draw length is your draw length. Don't shorten it or lengthen it to get a perceived performance advantage.
My current bow is set at 28.5" and I shoot a loop. I went back and shot both today and ended up going with the number 3 and my proper draw length. Shooting the number 2 cam at 28" added 1-2 fps compared to the number 3 at 28.5".
