anybody else sick of hearing about cam newton, he is not that great and too inexperienced
yes I will admit that throwing 854 yards in 2 games is an impressive number
however he has only thrown for 3 touchdowns and has thrown 4 ints, throwing more interceptions than touchdowns is never a good thing
and when it is all said and done the only number that really matters is the fact that his team is 0 - 2

sorry i felt the need to rant about this, but I was watching some dumb sports show the other day and they were bickering about whether cam has all time great potential (i'm not saying that he won't be good when he becomes more experienced) but there is nothing there to base any argument that he could become an all time great, way too early to tell

yeah people are jumping to conclusions far too early. I'm sure that as the season goes on reality will set in. Sure, he throws for alot of yards but that is useless when you toss a whole bunch of ints that allow the opposing team to rack up TDs.

I think for what he has done in his first two NFL games is worth the attention he is getting. Coming out of Auburn and I didn't think he would do very well ( he just doesn't seem like a smart person off the field) but he has done a phenomenal job thus far. When you think about it, this is really only the second year of competitive football he's ever played. He was Tebow's back up at UF, transferred to a Junior College and then dominated at Auburn last year. The guy is still very green.

Based on his two performances, he definitely worthy of the media attention and praise he has been getting. Plus, it's hard to not like the guy watching him play. You can tell he just likes playing football and has fun while playing the game. I just wish he wasn't such an idiot and didn't steal computers while at Florida.

He can make all the throws, quick enough release... is a genetic freak... His learning curve and ability to recognize and read defenses will determine what kind of QB he becomes.

I think he is a gonna make a great qb. Yeah, he has had his int and rookie mistakes, but he also has TONS of potential. He was shredding up the Packers D in the 1st half last week, and then he started to make those rookie mistakes. Once he gets more experienced, I think he is gonna be dangerous. He has decent WRs RBs and D. He was very poised in the pocket in his first ever game against Arizona and for the first part of the Green Bay game. I think the reason he had a terrible 2nd half, was because the GB D just started to blitz more and the young CAR O just started to tire out, and he is not used to such a heavy NFL D.
    Only time will tell...

True, he has to win but Manning and Aikman were a combined 4-28 their rookie seasons and they turned out ok. =)

I'm going to let you guys in on a little secret......<whispering>the first pick in the draft goes to the worst team.</whispering> Don't tell anyone.

The guy is out performing most rookie QBs in history, especially those that went to a terrible team, is his first few games. Obviously it is way too early to say what kind of QB he will be, but he's off to a heck of a start. How relevant where the Panthers last year? This year they are in every game, so far. Including a game against the defending champs. Quite a difference.

    and

His win/loss record is 1-2, but lets look at this from a different standpoint, he's also proving MANY critics wrong, and the one loss was a pretty good game against arguably the BEST team in the NFL. And his team was in that game moreso than the Bears were in it against the Pack... He put up a LOT of yards against a pretty good defense up there. He gets the win, against a not-very-good Jacksonville team, but watch and he'll progress into something special. He won a Juco national championship, and he won at Auburn, and build enough around him, and he may soon show people how special he really can be!!! Cam Newton is what Terrell Prior aspired to be, but never accomplished. Watching a few of the games he played in last year, I had NO DOUBT that he'd become pretty damned good in due time!!!

Thanks for posting this. Its a good example of what happens in sports, and what has led to the start of this thread. Some people will make claims, some times outrageous, and when it works you will hear about. If it doesn't, everyone forgets. Its the oldest trick in the book. Sports reporters/analyst like this are a dime a dozen these days.

No offense, just using it as an example.

I still believe it is way too early to be having sports shows discussing whether or not he may become an all time great. I do think he become much better with time, but I think he would have been much better off backing up a veteran for a year or 2, so he could learn some things. But I guess that is a coaching error and lack of other talent on the panthers team, that causes him to be a starting rookie QB.

Coaching error? Who would be a better option as a starter for the Panthers? Isn't the job of the coaching staff to put the players on the field that give them the best chance at winning?

In today's sports media, everything is over publicized. It doesn't seem to be any worse with Cam.

you make a good point, right now they really have no other talent at all at that position. So I guess in their case it is mainly a lack of other talent. when it is all said and done in a few years, maybe even next year, assuming he can stay injury free. I am sure he will develop into a very good player. Whether he ever becomes great or not will depend on way too many variables.

also i will add even this victory did not impress me with him - he threw 52% for 158yrds and 1 TD, hardly a great day for a QB.

i simply stated facts, I have already several times given him the credit that he will develop into a good QB. But so far he has yet to impress me other some huge number of yards in games he lost and not very impressive throwing in their only win and I understand that throwing in adverse conditions is very tough. My whole point to the thread is that he has yet to do anything that has made him all that great. There is a lot of season left and we will see what happens.

Football is a TEAM sport...a quarterback can play well and not win the game if the rest of the team does not do their part.

Carolina was the WORST team in the league last year.
