I am looking at different bows right now just in case I "have" to buy a new one coming up. What is the biggest advantages or disadvantages of binary cams vs solo style cam? I have heard solo's are smoother but, binaries are faster. I am comparing the Diamond Outlaw vs Bowtech Assassin. There is only 3fps difference in speed and $50.00 difference in MSRP. 3fps doesn't justify $50.00 to me so its more the advantages of the cam systems. I know they are both good bows and I have shot and like the Assassin but, I haven't shot the Outlaw yet though. My pro Shop has both and I plan on shooting both if I purchase one of them. It still all depends on if my current bow needs enough work to justify replacing it.
Binary cams are "slaved" to each other with the control and letout cables attached to the opposite cams... As such, they stay "in synch" with each other which prevents one cam from advancing or retarding in time ahead or behind the other. Solo cams generally "stack" slower when measured as a draw-force curve, meaning you the shooter will feel the draw weight "ramp up" slower into the draw... this can be, for a lot of archers, a more pleasurable shooting experience. Some, on the other hand, don't like it. Binaries tend to stack quicker, and hold peak weight longer; thus, they're generally quicker all things being equal. All boils down to what you like in a shooting experience.
