I have grunted in small bucks in full swing of Wisconsin rut. But not sure how big bucks will react at semi long range in full swing of rut. Any advice with scents and decoys will be greatly appreciated. Trying to get a QDM buck under my belt with a bow.
It depends on your buck/doe ratio. Near 1-1 and You have a chance. In a herd control unit it's 6-1. Having said that I would not play decoy games with a mature buck. Small bucks are dumb. Look at the py entries for Wisconsin. Book deer are patterned in the summer and killed the first week or taken the first 10 days of the rut (Nov). Play the wind and hunt near the doe bedding areas from 11/1 till 11/10 all day sits.I have 9 book deer, I now sleep in and sit from 10am till dark.
I o up north to trempealeau county wi for the first week of November then 5 days of rifle season. Have about 450 hunt able acres. Always see at least 1 B&C buck a trip. Property around us get hunted only in gun season deer many live on r property. Always sit all day. Always see big bucks around when every one else is going in for a nap and lunch.
