i hunt a large cattail swamp almost exclusively during the rut. when i see bucks chasing or not they are making lots of noise coming through the cattails. i love to blind grunt in there but have always wondered do the deer question my calling due to the lack of noise that should be happening if it was real . i have thought about making the scenario more real by tying a rope to a log and pulling on it to act like a deer is really there moving through the cattails. what do you guys think? i can always fool the young ones but the older mature buck i believe dont always come in because it doesnt seem right. let me know your thoughts

The more realistic you can make it the better.I do a similar tactic that seems to work I tie my rattling horns to my bow hoist rope and let them hit the ground it sounds like hoofs thumping the ground then I give them a jerk and the horns bang together this works well for me when the bucks are out staking out new grounds

You bet! Anything you can do to make it more realistic. I killed a mature buck in 2008 by chatering like a squirrel. The buck looked right at me as I was stalking him and I made a noise. After I sounded like a squirrel he let his guard down and I shot him at 22 steps!

I like the idea of the log and rope. This will help sound more like a deer. All these little things that you can do will help fooling that big buck.

I read sometime ago about doing this Tactic with the Horns? I think it sounds Real, I have called in a couple Bucks 2.5 just not shooters quite yet in my Book, I also use real Horns also, I have a set of probably 130" horns, that sound real good, If you use small set you dont get the mature Buck Fight, In my Book. But work with what you have? Good Luck all as I feel the Horns in this area will be good as soon as this storm gets through.

I have had deer come to the noise of me packing my tree stand and walking through leaves, i guess they thought i was another deer.I think ur idea could work well at the right time.

tried out my new tactic over the weekend and wow it was a success!!! tied 40' of thin rope to a 3' log 4" diameter. i tied it in the middle so it could grab on the cattails and make noise. called in 5 different bucks that all came with in bow range. the noise from the cattails and the cattail movement is what i think got them in so close. very happy about this and i think it will bring me great success in the future!!!

Glad to hear it's working. I like the idea of lowering rattling antlers to the ground with a rope. I don't have real antlers, only have the rattle bag. Will give this a try when I sit tomorrow.
