this is my first year bow hunting. If it was gun season I would have already filled all my tags. I've spooked the biggest buck I've ever seen. Seen over a dozen does on different occasions. I won't just take a wild shot if I'm not 100% sure I won't take it. Last night I had 2 does out in the field. I grunted and they came into the woods sniffing around. they were behind me though. For about 20 minutes I seen the walking back and forth I couldn't get them to come out in front of me. Anyone have any advice on calling in does or is just the standard grunt about the only think I can do. I have the fawn in distress but I heard that doesn't work in the rut.

If you've got something you can control the tonality of the sound, like a True Talker or a Deer Flute, you can throw some doe grunts at them and sometimes they'll come investigate.

They're still social animals, but often times at this time of year they don't want to be bothered by a buck feeling his oats a bit too early.

same thing four came in tonight about 50 yds. This is my first year bow hunting I'm not comfortable with the shot so i will not take it. They just mill around in the field. Eat and what not, I grunt they look and go right back to eating. Maybe I grunt to much.. I think I catch my self grunting almost every time they put their heads back down. Should I just grunt and be patient and hope the wonder on in to investigate?

It's going to be hard to call them away AFTER they've reached their destination or food source; you'll have much better luck calling to does while they're travelling (or ANY deer for that matter) and you can hopefully get them to veer your direction...

Much harder to get does to leave their food. Easier with bucks, because they've got more on their mind than just eating, if that makes sense.

    I agree with this post.

Jackson eh? I was raised in Perryville, and that happens to be where I'm hunting the first part of the season. It's a small world after all!

Maybe this is where I'm making a mistake I'm not calling hardly at all.. Maybe a couple times an hour, after I see them though that's when I try to bring them in with no luck.
Man gun season is so much easier! This bow hunting **** really takes some skills!
