Idk I had a big doe come through grunting the entire way then 5 minutes later 4 smaller does followed behind her I guess she was leading the pack verbally

I saw a small(120") 8 point last night at over 100 yards. He was walking away from me so I figured I would try a soft grunt.
I let out 2 soft grunts, and he turned and walked towards me. He came to within 15 yards and looked around for the other deer.
In the past I have seen many bucks grunting early season. I don't think it's the same as during the rut, but they grunt and communicate all year.

3 years ago on Oct 7th I had a 150 inch buck bed down 75 yards from me. I waited til about 9:30 and gave him a couple grunts. He looked my direction, stood up and walked the opposite direction. 5-10 min later he came back from a different direction, walked within 15 yards, and now he is on my wall. Did I call him in? I don't know, but he is dead.

If your going to call in the early season I would not be aggressive with it. Some soft grunts maybe a bleat here and there. If you choose to rattle I wouldn't do anything more then a light tickling of the horns.

And really I would not try any blind calling. But that's just me
