    Check your oxygen sensors. I have an 05 ram that did this about 2 months ago. changed the oxygen sensors and have been fine since. I think the 04 has 3 sensors. They are about 30 each and its a pretty easy job.

    My 04 Ford started sputtering at low RPMs while on a slight incline or under a light load....it was the coil packs. Replaced all 8 myself in an hour and it runs like a top again.
