So, wanting to "broaden my horizons" a bit from my typical Busch Light, i recently purchased 12 "yuppy" beers to test out...

    First up was "Skull Splitter":

    Yuck. Terrible. Dumped it out.

Next was "Yeti Stout", who couldnt like a beer named after the Abominable Snowman?:

    Once again...another YUCK!

Up third, i tried "Old Speckled Hen":

Finally a beer i could finish. Though, i still wouldnt buy it again.

I have 9 more to go, but at this rate...im sticking to my Busch Light, with the occasional Dos Equis ;)

Dude, don't pour them out! At least have someone around that will finish it after you take one sip.

It makes sense that you were able to finish the Hen. Its on the lighter side of three you tried. Maybe try some other ambers or ligher browns. Have you tried New Castle? I think you could handle that. At least you're trying.

    But I'm no beer yuppy.

Edit to add...I would probably stay away from IPAs. I doubt you will like them. I think an amber or a brown on the lighter side is your best chance. Don't forget to have your pinky out when taking a sip...it makes a difference.

Darker beers just dont do it for me,

Im probably doing it wrong too, some of these beers are probably room temp beers, and i should probably use a glass....

But im an American male...if i cant just open it up and like it cold, then it sucks. Fact.

There I fixed it for you.

Seriously though, there are a ton of good beers made here...but they aren't going to taste like busch light...because they are good.

You have to develop a palate for the better beers. I wouldn't drink Busch Light unless it was FREE, and even when FREE, I won't drink Bud Light. I like a beer with a little flavor. Miller Lite and Miller High Life Light are my general consumption beers. Next month, Yuengling will be here, and it will likely be my "general consumption" beer.

Don't go jumping into the deepend before you know how to swim, and even then, you have to figure out what you have a palate for. Some guys like the very BITTER beers, IPA's and such, I don't care for them at all. Some guys like a German styled Lager, I think they taste like a strong skunked Old Milwaukee.... For me, I like Porters, Brown Ales (New Castle or Amber Bock come to mind), Amber Ales (Killians), and some of the Belgian Ales (Shock Top or Blue Moon). You need to get a bunch of guys together and have everyone buy a different styled 6-er, and then you can all do a taste test and see what works for your palate. Sure you may spend $9-10 on a 6-er, but you may also find a good beer be it the one you bought or one someone else bought that you might like on a night when you cooked up a steak and wanted something with some flavor to go with it. You might still drink Busch Light as a general drinking beer, but for a more flavorful beer, you may like something a little more expensive and tasty, and maybe you won't. It's all about what works for you. I drank Miller Lite or Budweiser when I was a high school kid, only drank the Busch Light or Bud Light if it was free. And I NEVER got carded buying Budweiser or Miller Lite, but many of my friends buying Busch Light or Natural Light, were carded pretty regularly. Because they're known to be "kids" beer. :D

Try some wheat beers. Stay away from stouts, porters and ales until you are old enough to shave.

    Thanks for the advice...

The 12 I picked were completely random and I picked them based on there "looks" (Marketing 101). This was the best ay to get a random assortment IMO.

There are a few i am going to seek out, ie Moosehead.

And may i add, i do enjoy Blue Moon, Shock Top, Leinenkugel's and Yuengling when available. These are slightly more popular brands around here though...the dozen i picked, i had never heard of. With most being imports.

If you don't like the German Skunk Beer Flavor, don't waste your time with Moosehead or Molson both have that Skunk Beer flavor. Sam Adam's Oktoberfest is pretty decent, only around for a short period of time, and Leinenkugel's Fireside Nut Brown is a great one that they only make around Christmas. Dundee has a Festive Ale that is also very tasty, 6.9% alcohol to boot, and tastes pretty good. I can buy a 6-er of that and it makes Christmas party's with my in-laws a bit more tolerable.....:D American Micro Brews have many great flavorful beers you can find out there.... And MANY that aren't very good. We have a local Micro brewery here that has some of the WORST beer I can imagine trying to drink, while I've been in others that even their IPA tasted good to me. For all the fanfare, I've yet to taste a German beer I've liked.

Some beers I like when not drinking a lighter beer include:

    Summit EPA
    Sam Adams
    Sierra Nevada
    Red Hook ESB
    Fat Tire

I drank Busch Light when I was like 16

Ok, first, that Yeti Stout is pretty delicious.

Second, might I suggest, like others have suggested, that you stay away from any strong ales, stouts, IPAs, triples, doubles, and really just anything with some actual taste.

Start with some "lighter" dark beers such as Newcastle. Perhaps try to find a saison to sample.

I was serious about the wheat beers. This is a good time of year to check them out. Good wheat beer with a lemon slice is hard to beat.

Off the top of my head...try New Castle, Fat Tire, and Bell's Best Brown.
