I was wondering the difference between a roller guard and a cable guard. Also what are the affects of each on cam lean?
You answered your question with your second question. A cable guard induces more stress on the cams causing cam lean and torque. That being said, cable guards are not a bad thing. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Okay thanks but it seems that the roller guards from bear archery seem like a rigid design that would not allow the cable to flex towards the center line or move backwards. They are limited to up and down movement. Wouldn't this have more effect on cam lean than a conventional cable slide?
They are the same thing accomplishing the same task. A rollerguard is a frictionless cable guard. They both keep the cablee out of the way of your string, one just has rollers and one has a slide. Same thing, less friction.
Six of one, half dozen on the other. Go with what the manufacture has installed or says. They have way more personnel and way more money involved in the research and have tried this and that trying to make their product better than the guys down the street.
Actually, the opposite is true. Roller guards cause more lean and torque due to the fixed position. As you draw, more torque is applied. Causing twisting and leaning. This also applies more load to the limbs. Bowtech battles some of this effect with their flex guard. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
What do you prefer? From what I'm hearing they do the same thing but to get the roller guard you have to pay more money. Now is it worth the extra money because it reduces cam lean or does it make no difference?
I dont want to make it sound like roller guards are bad. I can tune them fine but they are a bit touchier than a slide. I wish hoyt still gad the slide on their huntung bows. As it is, they are just on their target bows. I prefer the cable slide. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Oh I was right. This pretty much settles my decision unless I shoot a bow and there is a notable difference. But why pay more for something with a negative effect on your bows performance. It may make a difference with a flex feature but the average roller guard does nothing really( at least it seems this way)
