Hello, I am having problems with vane clearance on my Fred Bear Lights Out cables. I have thought about replacing my original cable guard with a Windstalker cable guard. Does anyone know if the original cable guard on the lights out is a 5/16 or 3/8 diameter size? If it is 5/16 then I will have to get a side mount adapter before it will work.

Are you sure that the vanes are contacting the cables? The reason I ask is because when my arrows are nocked it appears as though the blazer will contact the cable, but I did a lipstick test and the blazers lay down during the shot and dont contact it at all.

What rest are you shooting? Can you change the position of your cock vane to create more clearance?

Thanks for responding Dubbya, I am using the NAP freedom fall away rest and really like it. But to answer your question, yes, I am sure that the blazer is making contact with the cable. It is not much but it is enough that I am having problems paper tuning the bow. I tried turning the nock a little to get clearance but then the vane hit the side of the rest arm. The straight cable guard on my lights out seems to be the problem as I can't move the cable guide any to make enough clearance. I ordered a Saunders Z rod yesterday and hope that I can get it to work to make the clearance I need. I have bow hunted for about 35 years now and have hunted most all that time with a recurve shooting instinctive and with fingers. Switching to a compound with sights has been about like taking a shower with a rain coat on. It just don't feel right. But my eyes and my shoulders have made it a must to change over. If I can get this little problem cleared up I think I'm going to get use to the sights and release.

GA Bowhunter, I'm about a stones throw away from you. I live in Summerville just down the road from you. I go through Ringgold about twice a month going to Chattanooga. Small world isn't it?

Yeah I know where Summerville is, and I actually work in Chattanooga. Small world indeed.

No problem. The Z rod should definitely take care of the issue, I'm assuming it has something like a 1/4" offset. You ought to be golden, let us know how it turns out!
