I clicked on to Newser to get my daily dose of tabloid news yesterday, when I noticed a Hunger Games-inspires banner ad for a Cabellas/Bowtech compound bow. I can't remember ever seeing a compound bow advertised on the top of a national/international news website, where usually there are ads for mass-market items like airline travel or cars or something like that: Incite Your Passion with the Instigator - YouTube
Kind of. Newser is running Google Ads, which typically display content based on the content and keywords of the website the ads are on. So if the advertiser (let's say Cabela's) wants to target their ads on websites that talk about the Hunger Games, you may see their ad pop up on various locations. The website can choose to eliminate certain ads or advertisers if they want, but most don't. They just want their money every time someone clicks on one of those ads. Likewise there is also something called remarketing campaigns which pick up cookies left on your computer by websites you visit (Cabelas.com) and then displays ads to you on other websites as you browse the Internet. This is become more commonplace in the last few months. Since I do a lot of web/IT work all day long I see IT related advertisements all over the place as I'm browsing news sites, hunting sites, etc.
So thats why there are often banners for inappropriate sites popping up.... guess I need to clear the browsing history before the women sees this.
I hope your wrong Jacob or else there's going to be a lot of porn ads on mine! ;-) LOL! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What you do in your spare time isn't my business... HAHAHA. Mine switches from spring to fall from golf adds to hunting adds.
