After skimming thru the 8 pages here, seems like comparing Wi and MN has more to do with the timing of the gun season in MN. The debate about the cross bow in WI has been going on for a few years here. The studies have been done and the numbers prove that cross bows dont add to the deer kill like one might think. Plain and simple. Hunt with what you like and dont worry about what the next guy is doing, as long as its within the law. Lets stick together as sportsman.
Ok I'm hardcore compound and would never hunt crossbow. That being said I have no problem with guys who do. If I hurt a shoulder or something I would be glad to be using a crossbow rather then not hunt. Guys who say there the same thing your a idiot. They are no where near the same. DO NOT say there the same. Compound takes a ton of practice and any slight error could be catastrophic. Someone who never shot a compound could in no way take it out hunting. Although a xbow you could. Point and pull trigger. But again I have no problem with xbow, rifle, muzzle loader. Do whatever is fun or available to you. And in terms of more deer being harvested because of xbow is retarded. Ok maybe your right, like 0.5% higher for the guys who miss. The challenging thing about xbow or compound deer hunting is getting a deer to 40 yards. With either weapon its equally as difficult. We're hunters. Lets all call ourselves hunters. Not rifle hunters, xbow hunters, compound hunters. Anti hunters are already kicking our asses. We don't need to split up into groups.
Many factors have contributed to Mn. not being a book player anymore. The mensa move to open gun season during the rut is a biggie. I strongly disagree that xbows In Wisconsin will not result in a NET increase in harvest and young bucks will take most of the bolts. At least we will see the net difference when it happens, oops, call in registration also? never mind.
