yeah but you said "I am all about dumping baldies and protecting bucks till a 3rd bday. Ya think the xbow hunter that drops 2k at the pro shop counter and waddles thru the sci convention gives a hoot beyond a spork?"
i interpreted that as you want to wait till the deer reaches a certain age before you kill it and then proceeded to say that an Xbow hunter won't give 2 ****s about doing the same.

Us northerner use it too. Generally the word tote is only used when we are complaining about carrying something around we don't like or have much use for. LOL

Did not answer my question and I prefer not to make assumptions about an individual based on their choice of weapon. How quick someone becomes proficient at a weapon is not a negative.

It is pretty funny how folks are saying crossbow hunters go "dump 2k and go shoot at anything with barely any practice" and make unethical shots. So by this statement, apparently every compound bow hunter in the world NEVER takes a shot that shouldn't have been, that there aren't people who go dump a ton of money into a bow and gear and after a few days of plinking some arrows and thinking they have the sight all tuned in never happens? And of course, if I mention gun hunters as well, the gun hater club will come out. That's one of the problems with society these days, a lot of folks feel that if its not how they think things should be done, then it's automatically wrong. Honestly, who cares what weapon of choice a fellow hunter uses? If you feel they are not doing enough to guarantee a quick kill, safety of others and so on...then how about you help EDUCATE your fellow hunter rather than alienate? There is enough hate in the world as it is, and more than enough anti-hunter groups/people out there....don't be a part of the problem, help make things right. Sure, you will always have the hunter who is unethical, no morals, etc. but the hunting community needs to stick together. If it makes you happy, and being able to spend time in the woods enjoying what has been provided to us, then by all means get out there and use your weapon of choice as the law allows. C'mon guys, quit all the bickering and help make hunting enjoyable!

I honestly thing that the same % of bowhunters shoot spikes as rifle hunters. There's just a hell of a lot more rifle hunters. Many of which also bowhunt...

What makes someone who shoots a crossbow any less of a land steward than you? It's liberal a$$wagons like you that want to make laws for people on subjects they know nothing about. Two people in my immediate family hunt with crossbows and they both work hard with me on food plots, checking trail cams, and everything else I want to improve the quality of the animals we hunt. Don't go passing judgement and lumping everyone who uses a crossbow into the same category. Just because you may know, and I stress the word may, some people who show total disdain for QDM and other hunters in the area, doesn't mean all are that way. You can keep the uneducated, liberal, 'the world owes me and Obama will give it to me' jerks in your area and leave the rest alone. Kinda sounds like you fit right in with them

I agree they are definately not bows and would be fine with a seperate season and regulations. The modern Crossbows are definately deadlier than a compound not having to draw shooting with a shoulder mounted weapon. I like many have shot older xbows and agree they where pretty tough to shoot front heavy loud cumbersome ect.

I recently had an opportunity to shoot an xbow from scorpyd as well as the stryker 380 and these are not your daddys xbow the stryker is compact light well balanced with a great trigger. With a range finder these new xbows give almost any hunter an advantage over a compound.

Keeping all this in mind as I get older I realize we as hunters shoot ourselves in the foot arguing and bickering. We forget what hunting is about. I would rather do nothing else in this world than hunt with my father regardless of weapon. Hunting is about spending time with people we enjoy and being outdoors. I grew up in PA and now live in NY. My last few years in Pa it seemed like the epidmic was getting worse. The selfishness and narrow minded views of some of these guys putting deer over generations of family friendships and people. The masses of inconsiderate orange army just took the fun out of hunting.

I will go out of my way to simply avoid these situations or sorround myself with these type of hunters and have in the past few years gotten back to enjoying what I grew up enjoying and not worrying if its a 138 1/2 or a 140 or if someone else will approve the method I chose to take the animal. As long as im enjoying being outdoors and doing it legally what more could I ask.

ps. I personally almost exclusively archery hunt but have been known to once or twice a year grab the parker tornado xbow.

What about the people with shoulder issues? People who just had surgery? With an illness that doesnt allow them to draw a compound? Do they just not get to hunt?

Out of curiosity...how did you come up with those arbitrary ages as limits?

this makes ZERO sense! the majority of people i know that hunt with crossbows are mid-40's they use the crossbow because of injuries from their past but dont want to give up hunting all together. i would really like to know how you got those numbers!

Funny you mention this. I learned how to shoot a compound bow last year. I was hitting small groups at 25 yards after 10 minutes. This was a 2000ish off brand bow, with cobbled together sights that my buddy let me try out. As much as people try to say so otherwise, shooting a compound bow at a target is not very difficult. I would bet money that the amount of time it takes to learn to shoot well with a compound, and a crossbow, is the same.

I got a solutin to all this, obviously we should outlaw all hunting with everything besides compound bows. Everything else is just to easy and we don't want somebody that puts no effort or skill in to be out in the woods.

A "spork" is slang for a spike/fork. 4% of Wisky bucks are aged at 3 an older. 60% are" sporks".

I live in the most conservative congressional district in the country, Darrel Issa's. I voted for Gerald Ford and have never voted anything but conservative. How You extracted I was a liberal, which in this discussion is meaningless anyway, is beyond me. Your logic would brand every Illinois resident as a violent, welfare, handout loving, liberal also? I have a disabled relative who has used a xbow since 1980. Being driven to and carried into a tent blind is different then an abled body hunter but that's a me problem.
Frankly, this is no different then an inline ML scoped, good for 300 yards being a primitive weapon.
