I'm new to bow hunting. But I'm a life long hunter. I got my bow back in January after a year of shopping for the right weapon. I have a Hoyt Maxxis 31. I shot a bunch but it was the smoothest. Since I never drew a string I went with what felt good. I have been shooting since getting ready for the season. I get all kinds of advice from my buddies on what tip to use. There is one camp that says mechanicals are the way to go and then there are some guys that are nuthn but fixed broadhead guys. Im stuck on the Magnus Buzz Cut 100gr and the Rage. Since I am new to shooting and my accuracy is an issue. I'm not a bad shot but I know I can get better. My shots are within two inches at 20 yards consistently. I havent even started my 40 yard practice. What should I go with??

Does it require a refigure of my pins if I shoot a Buzzcut or should I go with a Rage and not worry. Just know I have not shot a blade be it mechanical or fixed from my bow. My range will be 10 to 25 yards due to my hunting location.

Any and all advice and tips are welcome!! Thanks folks!!

First off, welcome to the forum.

Second, this question is going to pull many an answer so get ready lol. I perosnally feel you should go with the buzzcut. If you bow is tuned properly and you have a proper arrow I can GURANTEE you that the buzzcut will fly out to your 25 yrds...and much further in fact. They are sharp as hell and get the job done quick

Word of caution, don't fall into a rut where shooting a mechanical can fix your BH accuracy issues. Even if you shoot mech. heads your bow needs to be properly tuned to be as efficent as it can. Good luck!!!

Thanks Backcountry! This is the kinda feedback I'm looking for. I practice two to three times a week. So my accuracy is getting better. Its just not as good as most of you guys that have been shooting a while. I'm leaning toward a buzzcut anyway. I use an Octane arrow rest and viper sights. The dealer who has really helped me chose a couple of the add-ons for me.

I really like the buzzcut as well, I can get mine to fly great out to 60 yards. I won't take a shot past 40 but I like to practice farther because it amplifies my flaws so I know what to work on.

Welcome to the site and I am still pretty new to this site as well.

The poundage on your bow also comes into play when choosing between these two broadheads. Rule of thumb low poundage bows should stay away from mechanicals at least the ones with large cutting diameters like the rage.

I've read a fair amount of reviews on-line saying the Buzz cut's don't leave a very good blood trail. Not sure if there is anything to it. But enough people have stated this to make me concerned.

I am going to try the 4 blade Magnus Stinger. We will see how that works out.

Agreed, I forgot to mention that. I don't like the serrated blades. The stinger, which is a straight blade buzzcut, is a great head. Shot a doe with one last year and has great blood. Can't beat the magnuz warranty either;)

glad to have ya welcome look dude i shoot the magnus stinger.what it hits is destroyed you dont have to worry about it opening up only thing you have to worry about is putting the pin on the animal cause once you do its dead! you dont have to worry but tracking cause they aint going far! i dont know bout rage or muzzy but magnus carries a lifetime warranty on all thier bhs you wont need it cause they are awesome i shot one clean thru a 3d target and it stuck in a cinderblock wall finally yanked it out and it was as good as it was the day i opened the package it came in.

if you are pulling over 60 lbs and your KE is 60 or bettter and your bow is tuned, Rage are great heads, but they are expensive. Also look at the Standard 1" slick Trick fix blade...best fixed head I have ever seen IMO.

Agreed.............I have shot Stingers for about 7-8 years now and Buzzcutts since they were released.........awesome heads. 2 big holes with tons of damage and lots of blood to easily follow.

Best heads I have shot...........and I have shot a ton of them. The easy replacement of blades makes them about as close to perfect as you can get.

I laugh when I see the old wives tale about serrated heads not cutting as well or "tearing" instead of cutting thus causing less bleeding. Pure myth. These blades are scalpel sharp and do more then enough damage to leave you a short walk to your trophy.

Here is a 100 grain 2 blade stinger hole from my son's deer last year. Not much blood on the ground but the deer was laying 30 yards away so I did't spend much time looking for it.

I am going to use the 150 grain 4 blade buzzcuts this year.

Damage from 4-blade Buzzcutt. Honestly couldn't tell you much about the blood trail, he died in sight so blood was a moot point.

Same here all my deer have died with in sight so I have never really had to blood trail one so I only look for a sec or two and then move on to go claim the deer.
