For those of you who have experience with one or the other (or both), tell me your pros and cons. This won't be anything imminent for me, but I can see the writing on the wall for our family farm in the coming years. Owners with different views, often leads to unsavory conversations regarding it's future. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
Owning, we bought our place almost 2 years ago. Key word, "our place". We make the decisions, we cut trees where we want, we put food plots where we want. It is also nice to know that the money we spend every month goes towards an investment for us, not someone else. Lease, not always bad but when it is, it can be really bad. Hard to get along with other people sometimes, differing views, no return on money spent. There is always, "that person". If is a small group you have a better chance. Just my 2 cents worth.
What's the minimum acerage that y'all would buy for a deer property. I'm about to graduate and was thinking about taking the money I've saved up over the past few years working part time and asking my mom for some as my graduation present to buy my first piece of deer land. Note I will probably be moving within a few years due to the military Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Definitely agree with the investment part of it. That's where leasing would be a tough pill to swallow for me. Leasing also is probably a little easier to get into quality ground or more acreage too though, so I see some benefits there. There has been a lot of thought about maybe buying out some of the differing views on our place, but any time family and money get involved together things can go sour in a hurry. There are definitely better hunting grounds out there now, but there won't be any with as much sentimental value. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
I know very few people who only deer hunt what they own. Most people do a combination of permission/share/lease/own. I recently bought a waterfowl property and like the investment/pass on to my daughters side of it too.
Your last sentence is the key. I forsee the same situation for me. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
