What do yall think about buying used bows? Also, about buying used off the internet?

I am new to bow hunting, this is my first year to really bow hunt, so I obviously do not know much about bows. I bought a new, low end bow after last hunting season and I killed my first deer with a bow this year so I'm thinking about upgrading. I can't afford to buy a new higher end bow, so I was thinking about going the used route. Thanks for any help

Obviously buying used isnt quite as good as brand new but its still a great way to get some good deals. IMO as long as you trust the place you are buying the bow from there is no reason to not buy used. A lot of pro shops will carry used bows that you can personally shoot or check out or check forums or ebay

It's a bit of a gamble if doing it online, but using respected (in the classified sense) sites like here and AT that have well established feedback systems in place, you can usually feel out which sellers truly are giving it to you straight.

For me, I've NEVER bought a bow new. They hold value TERRIBLY, and I like to let others take the depreciation before I jump in an get a nice price:D

The warranties are another downside of buying used, unless you're buying Elite, so that should factor into the decision as well.

My first Mathews was a Q2 that I bought off ebay. Got a great deal on it and it has been a good bow. I still have it as a back-up. As long as you buy from someone that has a good rating, you should be fine. There are so many guys out there that think they have to have every new bow that hits the market that you can find some really nice bows for a fraction of the cost new. Many times, they come with accessories. I would encourage you to give it a try. Good luck!

I can buy, and have bought, two perfectly good, sometimes immaculate, used bows for the price of one new one. I won't say I'll never buy a new bow but I just don't see myself being in such a rush to get a particular bow that I can't wait and buy a used one for half the price.

I bought mine used off e-bay from a place with very good feedback and a very high rating. I got a great deal compared to new and when it showed up it looked like it just came from the manufacturer, but with some accessories installed. Havent had a single complaint about it and would do it again in a heartbeat. I did make sure to ask alot of questions and the place i bought it from was very good with communication.

If you buy from a pro staffer they usually get a new bow or 2 every year. Sometimes they have hardly been shot at all. And they usually keep their equipment in good shape.

I may have 1 or 2 to sell in the near future myself.

    Next question

Since everytime someone asks for recommendations on which bow to buy and everyone says shoot as many as you can to see which feel the best, how do I go about shooting used bows before I buy them, especially off the internet? I was thinking about going to shops and shooting some bows similar to bows I may find used.

Just make sure u get the right draw length, and have the sender or owner send u pics of the cams to make sure they look good and not bent. No use buying a bow cheaper then have to change the cams for the money u could have bought a new one. Have had freinds buy bows on ebay and they worked out so i hope yours does happy shootin

I've bought and sold at least a dozen bows online, some new, most used, I've only ever had one bad deal, and that was amended by paypal. Archerytalk.com is the VERY BEST used bow market you'll EVER find. I've made a few dollars and spent a few dollars there over the past 5 or so years. If you know WHAT you want, then you almost can't go wrong. E-bay is okay, but not ever gonna hold a candle to AT.com as far as a bow market. Do you have any specific bow in mind??? I have a couple that could potentially use a new owner......:D

Think most people are waiting on one of them.
