I've always bought my arrows fully completed from a pro shop, but recently I've been thinking about buying shafts and creating them myself. If anyone else does this are there certain considerations or things I should think about before doing it?

Yes, I build my own. Here is my reasoning.

I feel it's less expensive in the long run.
I feel I get a better product. Proshops around here just seem to throw them together.
It gives me something to do.
I never have to wait for them.
I don't have to drive anywhere.
    Instant repairs.

I did my first set recently. Look up my threads and you'll find one labeled new arrow setup. That takes you through a new setup I recently completed.

What you need to do is define your goals. You can't just throw these things together, you have a chance to customize and fit to your needs.

Some of these being an FOC of over 12-15% and a certain weight. From there your spine will be chosen out of necessity. You can use feathers instead of plastic vanes.

If you have any more questions just ask. There are some real arrow building gurus on here.

Start doing your own and you'll never let anyone else do them for you again. You'll start playing with wraps. Different
fetching. Helical. Offset. You'll love it. It's easy and not terribly expensive to start. If there is a tricky part, and I'm not saying there is, but I'd there were an art to it that would glue application. It'll take you a bit to figure out how much to apply.

Thanks for all the answers. Sounds like my next set will be custom.

It is the first area I started doing myself. But a good fletching jig and it will last forever.
