My question is, I own a LW hang-On & sticks but realized most of the trees I'm climbing a climber would work better on because there straight and have no branches to deal with. Should I consider purchasing a climber because their easier to climb with and less stuff to deal with or just get quicker and more proficient with the hang-on and sticks?

I like the idea of the Hang-on and sticks because once you have them up you can climb up and down the tree easily.

I like the idea of the climber because you don't have to deal with carrying in, hanging and taking down the sticks and climber are more comfortable to sit in.

    Thanks for your insights

If your trees are straight with no limbs on them, get a climber. That's what they were designed to do.

Most of the guys using hang-ons and sticks do so b/c the trees they hunt aren't suitable for climbers, and they enjoy the flexibility.

Stick with Lone Wolf and pick up a Hand Climber. :tu:

So if the trees are mostly straight, own a climber first and hang-on with sticks later?

Climber if the tree is straight and you don't have to prune your way up. Sticks are great if there are too many branches or crotches to get around.

I started with a climber and then bought a lw alpha and sticks due to public land hunting. I tried to go back to my climber and just can't seem to do so the lw is so easy after you get good with it. The lw does take some practice to master. IMHO if you aren't comfortable with the lw hang on and most of your trees are climber material make the switch to a climber. There is no sense of being uncomfortable hanging any stand; let alone in the dark and in the middle of the woods.

We hunt on private ground and use a lot of climbers, but I have recently gotten the itch to try these sticks/hang ons as the CA I'm planning on hunting this year doesn't allow climbing stands as they scar the tree. Have to admit I'm a bit weary, but people keep saying good things about them

    Interesting.

I don't mind the LW w/sticks, I own it and will certainly get better and quicker at them, just want to make sure.

One issue I have with the sticks and hang-on is trekking out to the woods and carrying the hang-on, sticks, backpack and bow. I like to hunt to and from the woods.

It took me awhile to get to the bottom of this. I was duped as well! One of my hunting buddies here in Kansas sent me these. After I saw the comments I thought about it more I was surprised I had never seen this feeder and the image was cropped to where I could not see the camera names. I called him this morning and chewed his ARSE as he claimed he had pulled them from the private land we have access to. He said he did it to get me pumped for the opening..... Oh well, nice buck. I have no other information other than these pics seems to be circulating the internet. Lesson learned! Sorry guys...

    Great first post heh?

I have both and use the sticks and stand 90% of the time, even on climber trees.

Thanks. Thats what I'm trying to find out.

I know with the sticks and stand I can climb ANYTHING I just need to get used to them.

My buddy keeps telling me to get a climber and I just wanted to get some other opinions.

Once you get good with stick and hang on, the difference in time is almost negligable. Well, reffering to my cheap equipment. I can have my hang on up and running in just a very short few minutes, same with my climber.

Personally I'm looking at stick and hang since i don't know what trees i'm going to encounter.

Wow I feel the lw and sticks pack much nicer than any climber I've used. I just backpack the sticks per lw's instructions Then use a bungee cord to nicely hold my backpack if I feel I need one that day. The one major improvement I did make to the stand was I ordered a set of padded backpack straps from gray wolf woolens words can't say enough about those straps.

I found it easier to not strap the sticks to the platform as LW suggested but laid them flat against the hang-on then hooked my back pack on top of them.

I've got some leverage sticks in that I think I like better than the LW sticks and may just rig them up to lay flat against the LW hang on in the future.

I like my climber a lot. It has always worked out for me. Sure there have been times where I wished I could get in a tree that was a little closer to the trail but I've still been able to find a tree close enough. I assume you hunt public land, otherwise I would suggest putting your hang-on in a hotspot tree and use a climber to hit other trees. That would offer you the most versatility throughout the season, I think.

No I'm only hunting private land at two different locations and have many hang-on and ladder stands already up but depending on the wind I can't always hunt those.

I have both. I take the sticks and stand unless I am planning an all day hunt. All day hunt = Summit for comfort, Any other hunt = Lone Wolf Alpha

I am just as quick, if not quicker sometimes, when I use my hang on & sticks compared to my climber.
Although I still find myself looking for "climber" trees, even though I don't have to.

One thing I haven't heard mentioned is safety. I have never used a hang on but have used climbers. If you use a harness and safety line around the tree that you pull up as you go up the tree, to me, this is safer then putting the ladder up the tree. I maybe wrong never having used the climbing sticks and hang on and would like to see your opinion on the safety comparison between the two stands.

Agreed, the LW's do not have a comfortable seat:( and it would be nice to have armrest and backrest and something you can drop down into.
