Hoping to get out at least one afternoon this week. Anyone else going to be in the woods this week?

Due to it being the native American holiday at school, I won't have labs this week. I'll be going out today, tomorrow morning, Thursday morning and possibly Friday. Good luck to everyone who is getting out there!

I'm hoping to get out but not completely optimistic. Been stuck inside most nights either with the kids with wife at work or when she's home it's been a handful so stuck in. Not exactly how I was hoping all these nights could go. Did some more driving so they could nap this weekend and found more spots to possibly look a little more into, and was less than a foot from hitting a nice doe just as I told my buddy with me I was sure that area had nice deer. If nothing else having kids that only nap on the road has gotten me a few hundred miles of scouting now. Hopefully after season well check further into some of those and have lots more options for next season. Next thing is actually getting out to them.
Good luck to you guys. I'll be able to hit afternoon sits once it gets darker earlier since I can use daycare then. It only goes so late that I don't now when I'd have to come in before last hour of shooting to get them

I did have a nice buck back on cam last check that hadn't been around since early velvet. He was just into dark but hopefully with me not getting out and cooler temps it'll push them into coming when I can get a shot. He's no monster but I wouldn't hesitate and would be very happy with

If it went through the shoulder blade there's a good chance he died. If you can I'd keep looking

If you're confident you hit him in the shoulder then you may have just hit the muscle in it. Usually it's fairly bright blood though, did you happen to take a picture of the blood?

no i didn't i should of but i was thinking muscle too the reason i'm sure it was shoulder blade is because as he was running away i saw the arrow sticking out of him a good amount so that why i'm confident

If it did not penetrate the shoulder blade then I believe he should live. Wouldn't be surprised if you see him again. Practice some more and get back out there CT! Good luck!

It happens, CT. I think we've all been there at some point. Keep your chin up and be ready for the next one (or the same one if he is still out there!)

It's a bummer CT, last year I stuck a doe in the "no mans zone" and when she ran away I saw the arrow sticking out both sides of her. We looked for 6 hours barely finding any blood and we never did find her. It still makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it. I guess that's why they call it hunting and not killing!!!

Keep an eye and ear out for scavenger birds the week or so though.

Sorry to hear that CT. Hopefully you get another shot at him, it would be great to be able to get him with somewhat of a history/story. If not hopefully you'll see pics and be able to know he's ok. Either way keep at it, you're not the first. My first season my arrow went off a twig and hit shoulder. I lucked out and that made it through the other side enough it turned out as a long track kill, and had a different hit leg right in front of heart that was a scratch and back on cam days later just fine. It's amazing what a little off can do
