Well guys I want to share a story about what happened to my son and I tonight. We have been hunting this stand which is a raised platform over some BIG&J produce. Noeh and I have had a difficult time this year. We have sat 39 times and has saw nothing.

That being said, we checked out cameras after a good cold front on Thursday followed by some fresh snow. On the cameras was two of my hit list bucks: Bingo & Lobster. Man were we happy to see this. So we sat last night with no luck and tonight as well. image.jpg image.jpg

So as we are walking down our trail through some dense willows and bush, I say to Noeh,"look at that moon." It was a cloudy half moon. As I turned to take four-five steps I heard the most shirking sound: a deer blew and it blew 5-8ft behind us. Since we exit without lights, we didn't even see it. At the moment we were nervous. But we were left wonder what was that noise?

So thank God for YouTube, we came back and looked it up and discovered it was an alert blow. We had never heard this before.

So we are open to your feedback or thoughts on what should we do?

Keep at it, trust me, I started bowhunting in 1987, and now after meeting the right people and hunting hard, it has finally paid off for me. It will for you and your son as well, just never stop doing what you love to do, Bowhunt!!

Keep hunting. Your going to bust deer sometime. At least it was in the dark away from your stand.

I have to say it was very interesting experience. I read an article to which the author stated deer get scared and blow by other deer or animals in the dark. What do u think about this?

I don't think I will ever stop. Experiences like last night make me want to hunt harder and wiser.

I will keep a grunt tube on me and fawn bleat or snort wheeze back at them to take some of the curiosity away. I will agree though the first time that ever happened to me, I almost crapped my pants.

Are you saying in 9 years of hunting you have never heard a deer blow?

I have to say my size isn't ninja like.lol. However, my scent and approach routine is solid to not educate the deer on who I am or where I am coming from. I can say I have tried to do a good job at this.

If a deer blowing at you scared you just wait till you surprise a coyote or even better a bobcat!

Those screams will definitely have you looking for a change of underwear!

Best way to accelerate getting over any of the heebie jeebies of walking in the dark woods.....take up turkey hunting the big woods on public lands. I used to look over my shoulder and now I don't think I'd bat an eye at the blair witch if I stumbled into it!

I had the exact same thing happen to me with one of my hitlist bucks last year. I came back the next day to the same location i spooked him and killed him that night.

deer blowing is actually an important part of communication with one another. watch "peter Feducia aka the deer Dr." on you tube he has some good videos on what deer are saying when they blow at one another. he has some other really good videos on there as well.
