I know we have a few threads like it already...

But i have to admit, im REALLY feeling burnt out right now.

Ive had a great year, taken 3 does with my bow, and had some great hunts with some good people. But right now i dont really have the urge to get back in the stand.

Some of it has to do with Freak Daddy being gone, some of it has to do with the low number of deer sightings i was getting on my latest hunts, some of it has to do with the recent rise of trespassers on my land (), and some of it has to do with how nocturnal the deer on my land are because of a lack of food sources.

Ive really been considering baiting for the first time in my life. Maybe even just for camera use.

Do any of you guys have any tricks you use to get the "urge" back?

Any of it having to do with that loss today:D I kid, I kid. The Steeler's, although my team, are horrendous this year. They caught some luck.

Anyways, how long do you have left in the season? Possibly a short break might get you recharged. You might find you have the itch not too long after.

Then again, sometimes it's just time to call it a season. It can be mentally and physically wearing on someone (as you probably know).

Caleb, I have been (by law) on a break for a week and have one more to go. Hung a promising new stand today. The break was all I needed, I am really excited to get in the stand again. Take a few days off and get back at it.

Lord knows you should drink yourself into stupor after that Steelers game.

I'm feelin' burnt out and I haven't killed a single deer this year, bow or gun :D. Probably sit 4 or 5 more times then it's on to duck hunting. Definitely learned the most this year since I started hunting though.

:D If it's any consolation, I certainly don't hate the packers.

That's sacrifice. Puppies are great for picking up chicks and also for the first hour you have them, after that they are worst than newborns. I love my dog, but sometimes he was hell as a pup.:)

I've been that way for a while now....won't spill into the 200 details on why, but I really haven't got out much at all this year. Mainly due to the grounds I hunt.

I did make the trip of a lifetime to AK and going to AZ for mulies for a week in January, so it certainly wasn't a total loss this season!

I feel ya, but today was my first opportunity to hunt in the snow for 2009 and they're finally hitting the turnips. Good hunt, but I froze my.. off with a noon-dark sit.

You've had a great year man

I going to avoid football discussion because i don't feel like getting banned at the moment ;)

A break sounds good, though its been over 2 weeks since i have been out.

I dont even have my trail cams out right now.

We have a very long season, running through the end of January...I think yours may be even longer. The anticipation of the season, followed by the grind of the rut will definatly drain you. Also losing 200"'s of motivation can do it to you as well. Last year was the first time I ever felt this way after blowing a few opp at exceptional deer..sightings were down etc. On Dec 24th, my wife said that I should get out because Christmas duties (first as a father) would eat up more time that I was use to. I arrowed a very nice 8pt that morning, first deer I saw in 2 weeks. It now seams like last years late season was great, but if I truly think back, other than those 2 minutes...it was sucking pretty bad. Hang in there, something big with a drop may just cruise past while you are sitting there wondering what else you would rather be doing.

Check out justhunts post in the scorecard thread. He killed a 161 incher on Saturday, that should get you motivated.

Or watch a couple of hunting videos, that usually gets me in the mood.

Go back over your trail cam pics from earlier this year and see who is still out there to chase.

Think about how much S**T Luke is gonna give you if you don't kill a buck this year.:D

Siman, in a few weeks you will be asking yourself "what if I would have gone more those last few days?" Remember, come July you would give anything to have those lost days back..you are young and strong and have very little in the way of responsiblities right now, go to the woods son and soak it in while you can...man when I was younger I sure did...I understand your tired me too, but I got kids and career and a house etc....I wish I had the youth that you do and the lack of duties!!

    Caleb,

I think at this point of the season, we all feel this way at times. Part of the problem for you is the loss of FD. You have a history with that deer and in a way you are grieving not the death of the deer but the end of your anticipation everytime you sit in the stand. It's okay to take some time off and just reflect on the season. Begin to formulate your plans for next season and I'll bet that gets you thinking in a different way. Put your cams out and I'll bet the your anticipation for that will return as well. As has been stated, if you quit at this point of the season, come June or July you'll be kicking yourself. Just go walk in the woods, that always renews me, especially when there's snow on the ground, it's just so peaceful. Whatever, but don't worry, the itch 'll come back.

    Blessings.....Pastorjim
