I am currently involved in a research project that will be used to address some of the major engineering deficiencies currently found in modern compound archery bows. To coin a phrase from Don Henley, I am engaged in “Building the Perfect Beast”.

The kind folks at Gordon Composites have stepped forward to supply laminated springs; however, there are some other questions that need answering before we can proceed to the testing phase.

1: Can anyone please direct me to a source familiar with the manufacture of prototype archery cams?

2: What specs are the current specs for bearings in common use today?

    Thanks for your help,
    K

I cannot answer your questions, however I am quite curious if you don't mind explaining...

    what are the engineering deficiencies?
What's your long term goal with this research project?

Good luck in your quest. Love a good engineering project.

Once the Earth was flat and bows were strung with sinew.
I am glad you are satisfied with BowTech engineering.
Why do you keep buying new bows?

#1. Riser torque induced by asymmetric limb forces and cam designs
#2. Efficiencies lost to friction associated with cable guard installations compensating for item #1
#3. Poor nock end arrow travel upon release related to items #1 and 2 with associated projectile speed losses and accuracy degradation
#4. Increased projectile velocity due to efficiencies in geometry and component design(s)

If the initial testing shows the promise I suspect is embodied in the combined designs, an actual hand drawn/hand carried compound bow would be the next step. The first two units would be a 30 inch axle-to-axle and a 33 inch axle-to-axle length.

Additional testing would determine whether or not a trip to the ATA and SHOT shows is required.

Some would say "It doesn't hurt to dream".
This time, I'm adding some cash to the pot!

guess I may have been being a bit short sighted. My mind can't comprahend anything better than what most high end bows are delivering these days.

might be a raddical change comeing to bow design in the future that is out side the square of the typical compound bow :)
