What do you guys use for bug/mosquito repellent. I need something to keep the mosquitos away while I deer hunt. They are brutal.

It has a very slight odor but I don't think that it has ever bothered a deer. I usually hang mine from the bottom of my treestand or from my bowhanger.

Thermacell here as well, they also have fresh earth scent pads but honestly don't think the regular pads will spook a deer.

I have never heard of any stores not being able to get Thermacells. I see them all the time when I go shopping. I would still order it from here on the site though! You get the awesome dvd with it which you won't get in the stores! LOL

x2 on the Thermacells -- they are great for mosquitoes. BUT, for early season I'm more concerned with ticks given the amount of Lyme disease around. For them, NOTHING beats treating your clothes with permethrin beforehand. I've also found that it significantly decreases mosquito bites as well. Although they still will buzz around you, they won't land on anything treated with permethrin -- and if they do, they die.

Permethrin is odorless when dry and stays on your clothing and gear for up to 6 washings (or 6 weeks), and is a 100% guaranty against ticks/crawly things and gives 97% effectiveness against other bugs according to the US Army tests.

In all my years of outdoors activities, I have to say that permethrin is the single greatest thing that I've ever come across to increase my enjoyment of the outdoors. NEVER had a tick or crawling bug on me when using it, no matter how dense the shrubs or how early in the season. 100% coverage of your clothes and gear = 100% protection against ticks & crawlies. (do NOT put it on your skin, though... it doesn't work that way.)

    Thermacell + Permethrin-treated clothes/gear = a 100% bug-free day

    +1 Thermacell and Permethrin
I always coat all my clothing, hats, gloves, masks, and boots with Sawyers. They sell it at ****s and it is supposed to be odorless. All I know is that is 100% works! Ticks, skeeters, gnats don't bother me. I went Turkey hunting last spring and my buddy plucked 7ticks off of him by mid day and I had zero. We set up together all day. The only difference was the Sawyers. I have yet to have a problem with ticks or skeeters.
