Do i have to wait for the soil to hit a certain temp to plant buck wheat? I'm just wanting to get it in before i get lots of weed growth. I'm just growing it then spray it, and plant something else in August. Also have any of you gentleman planted(mixed) anything with buckwheat? Thanks guys.
I've planted it but never mixed it with anything. The honey bees love it. As early as some things are here I'd plant it now. Might wait a little bit up there. Frost is deadly on it. Heck, we have soybeans coming up.
I will be planting it for the first time I think it said as a warm season so they suggest a soil temp of 60 I have a bag and will be planting it in a few weeks down here
Yes, Buckwheat needs warm soil temps to really do well. It will germinate in cooler temps, but you're better off waiting for 60+ degree soil. For us on the northern edge of 6A, that usually means planting around the 3rd week of May. It has always done well for us this way.
