So last night a buddy of mine shot a good buck. He tracked it for over 350yards and claims to have had excellent blood up to that point. Then the trail goes cold. Now today he has recruited my father and I to help recover this animal. He absolutely swears that he had a perfect broadside, double lung shot, and he will not budge from that. Though i personally have never seen a deer that was double lunged run more than 120yds! So please, if anyone could give us some insight and/or ideas that may help us recover the deer, let me know! At this point this is all i know, we are headed out now ill share whatever new essential details i find during the track!
My very first archery kill was a button buck. Perfect double lung and he ran a couple hundred yards. I had a blood trail 3 feet wide it seemed where it was coming out both sides. Crossed a creek and ran up hill. Adrenaline does crazy things, they don't want to die. It's a rarity but can and does happen. Good luck with the search
Blood color i am uncertain of, ill let you know when i link up with him. The buck actually crossed a creek that we have here, not far into the other side is where he lost the trail. I asked him if he searched up and down the creek shore yet and he said he hasnt. So thats going to be one of our first options if we cant locate blood
Sota brings up a good point too, don't just look at the ground. If it is a high hit it will be spraying as well, check higher vegetation and trees where it either sprays out or brushes up against them.
Okay so, we arrived at the property after recieving permission from the landowner, who said that a local gunclub has rights to the property. Right off the bat, 60 yards into the woods on the way to the last blood, we find a gut sack. So, we are uncertain whether or not the animal was taken, or if it was a different recovery. So we will put a bit of time into checking anyways. But so far this is not looking too good for my buddy
Oh and btw everyone, im simply helping this guy as moral support. Im partially colorblind and cant see the red blood too good myself lol
Yes it was definitely a depressing moment. We have now called it quits after an extensive grid search of the small parcel where we had last blood. We are left to assume that it was the gut pile of his deer, and that it was taken. Terrible feeling knowing that there are hunters in this world that would take someone elses buck that was clearly just shot. Its disgusting. Good luck to everyone and thanks for all the help!
You think guys doing that is bad, Ive seen bucks with their heads cut off laying on the roadside and in the woods, scum bags...citidiots
My 7 point this year ran 130 yards in under 6 seconds after being double lunged high. I can hear him crash into the dead fall on the video. Crappy blood trail until the last 30 yards. I've rarely seen a deer move that fast through the woods.
Several years ago I shot a nice doe somewhat quartering on during an evening hunt, so we backed out to give her some time to expire. She crossed the property line to the north where we had permission to track if needed. My buddy and I went back to his house for a bite of dinner and came back a few hours later. Had pretty good blood then a big pool......with quad tracks backed right up to the spot. Apparently the property owner tripped over the deer and figured it was a lost trail, so took it home. I was not about to go knocking on his door and possibly cause a ruckus over a doe, so we packed it up and went home. Stuff happens sometimes.....
We have an extensive lineup of tracking dogs here in TN I would check facebook and see if there are any up their for future needs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If anyone ever has a booner they are willing to pay a track dog for check out TN blood trailing network on FB guys on there will drive to IL and surrounding states Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not at all was just saying that as I'm sure most guys wouldn't pay the fuel for a dog to travel. I've paid to track a doe just to reassure myself she was still alive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
