I am looking to draw some bucks into my area but size is not really an issue for me. I have never arrowed a deer so any antlers are welcome in the bed of my truck. But my question is: Would using a mock scrape drive away smaller bucks? From what I understand, a scrape is used by deer to mark their territory so if a dominant buck did this, a smaller buck would leave the area? Do I have the right idea? As of right now I am getting no bucks on my camera so I am trying to find ways (and new locations) to get them to appear. Would a mock scrape help?
Go to the dollar store and buy a couple 16oz bottles of immatation vanilla and pour them into a spray bottle , spray it around your camera , low hanging leaves , on the ground ect ect , thats all i'm using now and i had lured them into my new stand area where i put a salt rock and 3 bags of Black Magic Deer Cane , they got it all tore up and burning my cameras up , immatation vanilla works trust me , and before you know it you will have natural scrapes somewhere in your general area .
Great advice. I'll give it a shot, for sure. I do have a mineral lick with acorn flavored gel and block but I have only seen does at it so far. I can't wait to try the vanilla though.
The Immatation Vanilla will draw them in as they smell the sweet aroma in the air as it sticks to the leaves , i also sometime mix it with soy bean oil it help repel the rain and keep it there longer , just because there is doe's there now dont be suprised what shows up later , if you get afew doe's to get use to that general area eventually the bucks will follow them , you really dont want to scent up your area with urines yet , you just want to keep them coming in and being relaxed................i just put out a bunch of apples yesterday and sprayd them with the vanilla also , they tore them up last year .
Yeah I can't wait to see what comes through during the rut. Plenty of does are using it now. We'll see what happens when the cold weather hits.
