Could it be possible bucks are rubbing pines and small cedars already? I found a big rub today and it doesn't look like any of last seasons rubs. It looks very fresh and bright in color. I figured they may be starting already to get the velvet off. Anyone know?
Mid-August is generally when they start getting rid of the velvet around here. I'm not sure about South Carolina. There has definately been a huge temperature change in the past few weeks so maybe it sparked some activity...here anyways. It went from being in the 100's here and high 80's and night to the 70's during the day and 50's at night in a matter of 2-3 weeks.
Buck rubs Saw two this morning-twins 2/.5 years old. They are still full velvet. Looking for water in the drought we are having (i have troughs that i have to fill up every day <i'm in texas>). Prior to this year, they would starting to get hard horns (okay, antlers) by the end of august. I don't know what is the norm in that part of the country. God bless texas! Start taking a look at rick perry for president (did'nt mean to make this political, but the whiskey somebody just gave me tastes good)
