Just curious, I hear a lot of talk about doe tags and buck tags...does the state you hunt label them as such? Or is it how you refer to them? No where on any MI tags are the words "doe" or "buck" used. Only "antlered" or "antlerless" deer. They do have a section for sex (male or female) when filling it out. During archery season, our combo tag can be used for antlered or antlerless deer. If used for antlered deer, one must have at least one 3" antler and the other must have at least 4 points on one side.
What happens if someone shoots an antlered doe? I kind of meant that as a joke, but it happens every year in MI. Have you ever heard of that happening around you?
I can buy a whitetail only tag, good for buck or doe during certain parts of the season. I can buy a left over non-res whitetail tag as well. We also have a regular deer tag.. good for mule deer and whitetail but again different season dates are involved. Idaho is starting to give Doe only hunts in a few areas, man I wish I could get one for the units I hunt!
We have Any Sex tags and Antlerless Only. Antlerless is defined by Iowa as a deer w/no forked antler.
In MO you get two tags good for any sex. However, you can only take one buck in the first half of the archery season and one during the second half. So, if you don't get a buck the first half you can only shoot one during the second half and your other tag must be used on a antlerless deer ( deer that has 3" spikes or less). Same for the first half, you can shoot a buck and then wait for the second half to shoot another buck...or fill your second tag with an antlerless deer during the first half.
Antlered or Antlerless here... To be an antlered deer, it must show at least 3 inches of antler growth above the hair line.
In IL it's antlerless and either sex only 2 bucks allowed with any weapon,. In WI you get antlerless and buck, limits differ in zones. In IL you can keep buying antlerless tags at will.
