I have used decoys with mild success. I say mild because I've only had young bucks pay enough attention to them for a shot. I'm curious. Do you guys have more success with buck decoys or doe decoys?

I would recommend a young buck decoy. If a mature doe sees a doe decoy, she is very likely to blow out of there. They know all the other does in their area and the decoy would be unfamiliar to her.

Yeah I would go with a less mature buck than what is in your area. You want to make it look like a less mature buck is invading a more mature bucks territory and the older buck will come in to defend his territory once he sees the decoy.

I used both Tinks inflatables last year with mixed success. I nice 8 pt ran away from my buck decoy. I had the doe out in a heavy morning fog. I looked right for 30 seconds and turned back and two does were standing right next to my decoy. I was afraid they would blow out if they got a whiff if the decoy so I reached for my bow and got busted.

I would go with the doe;ill be using one on opening morning.

I've often wondered about using decoys but I feel the deer in my area are too skittish.

Don't the bucks antlers usually come off of most decoys? Can't it be used as a mature doe too? I've heard of people taking one side of the rack off too to make a less intimidating buck. Wonder if that works?

I used one last season with bad results around my hometown spots in PA I had a nice 9pt get spooked by it and blew outa there and had younger bucks hang out on it. I took it out to Ohio with good results, much better than in PA I believe that the buck to doe ratio on the property is off and there is not a significant amount of fighting for breeding rights and where I hunt I Ohio they are more agressive, just my observations. Not a professional by any means.
