sorry for the sad news but my uncle hit a pretty big deer last monday with his truck. he lives in holcombe, wi (near chippewa falls). 13 Pts, 18 1/2" spread, still in velvet. Green Scored 175 3/4". damage estimated at $5,500 to his truck, he's fine but just upset that a guy like this couldnt be taken down by a bow.
asked him last night, but it was late.... i'd presume he's gonna mount it. prob the biggest seen in these parts by him in a few yrs.
That's what I figured. If your state's like NC, he's gonna need a permit (for the taxidermist) to possess the antlers. Should be easy to get from the GW. And, it might save him some headache if it's found in his freezer!!...lol Awesome deer. Too bad (about the deer and truck). Glad everyone's OK.
Looks like he screwed the pooch on using his original cape for a shoulder mount... and it's hard to come by those summer capes too.
When you hit a deer with a vehicle in WI you can get a tag from the officer to keep it. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I would love to have a velvet buck like that and have the summer coat on it. Capes like that are almost non-existant. Oh yeah, Holcombe is close to me.....I live in Chippewa Falls. Where did he hit it?
i think either 27 or county rd D. i'll find out what he is gonna do with it but yall are right as far back as he cut it doesnt look like an easy task.... maybe just keeping the head gear... after the $5,500 in damage to the truck he might not have much left.....
You know at least one person has been watching this buck, and these pics will make them cry. Very nice set of antlers. Thanks for sharing the pics. $5,500...that is some expensive venison.
Great buck...and Velvet looks in great shape...as Vito mentioned...somebody out there is expecting to see this buck on opening day...Oops! Glad everyone is OK...
Dan, a buck in Velvet is a different story, you need the DNR to give you a permit to posses it, wether you shoot it or hit it with a car! Big trouble if you don't! Nice looking buck!
Nice buck for sure... $5,500 in vehicle damage? Dang, I would be making a comprehensive claim for sure.
