Anyone ever use the stuff for mock scrapes? I was thinking on starting 2 of them this summer in some thick remote areas on public land. Do you guys usually start them in June/July?
I have used BFS before with decent results. I have a scrape running right now that is getting hammered. If i remember correctly Shed done a huge write up on mock scrapes. Probably one of the better threads I've ever read.
I have used it the past 2 years and it worked really well. I had this guy show up in daylight 4 out of 7 days when I started a scrape with it.(See Scrape Dripper at top left of pic) I learned a valuable lesson and I won't start my Mock Scrapes until a few days before bow season this year. Buck I call FullHouse from last year. First time I used it in 2014, the one above showed up for the first time ever and his Dad showed up too. Buck I call FullHouse almost 2 years ago. Have any of you created the mock scrapes in the summer months? I got a place that I hunt that was cut about 7-8 yrs ago and its now Major bedroom. I hunt the oaks on the backside of it. I was thinking about putting one hidden in the thick crap. ( try to find a small opening. If i'm understanding correctly I can scrape up the ground and put the BF Pre-rut stuff on the scrape and then on the licking branches put the BF Gland.
Can you elaborate? I am very curious about what you learned as I started scrapes earlier last year per recommendation and I had a bad season with minimal scrape action compared to previous years.
Yea, Can some of you guys who use them give some insight as to how you use them. When are you starting the scrapes? June? August? right before the rut? Any insight will help me and others who seem curious as well. thank you,
I started my Mock Scrape in the firs pic above the weekend of August 8 in 2015. This buck, FullHouse was only showing up maybe 1-2 days a week at night before then. When I started the Mock Scrape, he showed up numerous times a day for nearly a week. Same thing for the bucks (FullHouse and PitchFork)in the black and white photos. I hadn't seen them on camera all year until I started that Mock Scrape. I hadn't seen PitchFork in nearly 2 years before I started that Scrape. So I will not start any of my Mock Scrapes until 2 maybe 3 days before bow season this year. Going to use it to lure him in. That is the plan at least.
I have them work for me when I start them in August. If it is an active enough area, it will get hit more and more as the Rut approaches. I have learned that Licking Branches are key for my Mock Scrapes.
With the stuff being synthetic do you think I would still need to use a dripper? or just spraying in the dirt after scraping a spot up and then putting the licking branch lure on the branches above.
Can you elaborate? this doesnt really help us much unless you share how you use it etc. Any tips? Thank you
"October Nights" - YouTube I got this video a few years back on a BF synthetics mock. There wasnt a good branch on this trail intersection so i created my own by cutting down a small tree and wedging it in a fork. I scraped up the ground beneath it, urinated in it, then sprayed BF Forehead gland scent on the branch.
WOW! I think might just print all that off and keep it. I'm pretty much giving up on the regular deer urine hot doe in heat stuff as 99% of the time I never saw anything. I've heard good things about buck fever so that is the 1 product I'm willing to try this year.
