Well my main target for the season fell victim to a hunter on a neighboring property on the first day of Illinois firearms season . I'd seen this buck a few times the weekend before firearm season opened up, and he sure was a dandy. I got to see him up and close and there was absolutely no ground shrinkage. I'm guessing he is going to gross around 190 non-typical and net around 180. Not going to lie, it's pretty frustrating to have him swept out by a hunter that has no preparation or stand-time put in whatsoever to come out and shoot him at 7:00 opening morning. There still three other shooters roaming around, but I sure would have liked to have gotten a shot at this one with my bow. I'll try and see if I can get a picture up of him later.
In my mind, that has to be one of the worst feelings in bow hunting...(probably second to wounding an animal). I feel your pain buddy, but remember that isn't going to happen very often statistically speaking. Keep putting in those hours scouting and on stand and next year, you can shoot his 200 inch deer!
Alright well I finally got around to getting a picture of the buck I was after. Sorry it took me so long. He ended up grossing a little over 200" and I'm not really sure what he netted. I'm pretty sure the guy that got him will be taking him to the Illinois Deer and Turkey Classic to be officially scored though for those of you that might be going there.
wow brandon that sucks....bad feeling is right....theres other shooters in those woods for sure though
Man that really bites. All that effort & time in the woods, all to watch someone else tag it. Sorry to hear that.
I feel your pain!! I've been there before but It wasn't no 200" buck by any means. I've had a few 160" bucks shot by neighbors on there 1st hunt of the year during the slug season. My neighbors don't have a clue on what there doing, there just blessed with some good land.
