    I dunno... my giant schnauzer is so smart it's scary...except for how he responds to the ice maker dropping. Other than that tho, he obviously thinks. He plans, he anticipates. He schemes. He tries to bargain. He makes conscious decisions- weighs consequences, too. He can open just about any unlocked door or gate.

    My goldendoodle puppy is also very smart but does none of those things. She's just happy to please- quick to learn commands as could be and almost instantly obedient. But she's clueless to her ability to manipulate her surroundings unlike my other dog. She'll sit there and bark for me to let her in even after watching my GS do it for himself.

    What I'm getting at is they have totally different personalities and even some abilities although both are intelligent. I wonder if deer are the same way...

    Security I would think is the biggest factor. Somewhere he's going to feel safe and that could be a verity of places not necessarily the thickest nasty cover.
