A few nights ago, I slipped walking on the joists of my deck. Have a herniated disc in my neck and some tooth issues. Face a joist on my way down. Not hunting for a little bit. Hopefully next week will be back in the stand.
Probably heading out tomorrow morning for my last NY hunt for 10 days. The truck leaves for Kansas Wednesday morning to chase these guys
Hope you're feeling better Joe. That's gotta stink. Hard to draw a bow with a crick in the neck. Congrats on the buck Hardwoods! Can't wait to see the pics! As for the loss of my father, thank you all very much for the prayers and messages. it's been a difficult week but each day gets a little easier. One thing I can certainly be happy for is his cousin, an avid hunter as well passed a few years back so I know they are up there together looking for the next big one. I'm glad they'll be able to see each other again and talk. Even in my dad's passing, he was able to leave me a gift I'll remember for a lifetime. He and my stepmom were going whitetail hunting in Saskatchewan on Nov. 19th. The hunt was paid for and everything. My stepmom called the guide, good friends of their's they've known for years and explained what happened. She asked if someone could go in my dad's place and he said yes, no problem. To make a long story short, she asked me to go with her in my dad's place so I'll be in Canada on my first big whitetail hunt in about 3 weeks. My stepmom said there was no one else she wanted to go with and it would be a fantastic trip for us to take together given the circumstances. I know for sure there is nothing more my dad would want either. I asked and they aren't set up for bow hunting with stands and blinds so it will be a gun hunt but i'm not disappointed in the least. Today was the last day of my season. It was tough not hunting the last week because I know my dad watching us make all the arrangements for his celebration of life was saying, "Stop all this fussing over me and get out there and shoot a buck". But for me, it was just to difficult even thinking of being in a stand or glassing without tears in my eyes. First time in 3 years I haven't killed an archery buck so I'm a little bummed about that but, it just wasn't in the cards this year. I'm glad it was he and I together earlier this year with my rifle buck. I wouldn't have been able to do it without him. He was proud. Thanks again guys and good luck with the rest of your seasons. I'll be checking in and will be sure to let you know how the Canada hunt goes.
That's what I'm talking about! Congrats Hardwoods!! I love the character, that's a cool looking buck.
Thanks guys, much appreciated! His G3's (or lack there of) killed him a little, but I really like him...cool buck for sure. I didn't see a deer all day and at 5:20 i hear deer being chased. Look behind me to my left and see a doe being ran off, but couldn't tell by what. I knew she had to have a buck on her tail, so I let out 2 bleats and then a pretty aggressive grunt sequence, next thing I know hes walking in front of me at 17 yards with his mouth open drooling and breathing heavy. His body was pretty big and I was judging him at maybe 4.5 yo, so decided quickly to bend the ol' bow string on him. Stopped him and let it fly. As I'm sitting there after hearing him crash two doe fawns come in, one right below my stand and the other smelling the arrow that was buried into the ground. Finally they moved on and it started to rain, so I decided to get down and start tracking not to risk losing any blood. He ended up crashing in a thicket about 45 yards away from where I shot him. Ended up being a pretty exciting hunt!
Congrats man! Just wanted to make sure you know, get two photos with your bow and you in them, otherwise score will not count according to rules, wanted to let you know asap. Congrats man heck of a deer!
Oh okay good deal, when I saw it earlier I didn't see bow and him in them at all just the bucks head. Gnarly buck.
Yea I added the extra pics of his rack just to show his abnormal points and so there were no score discrepancies. A big congrats again on Splits, great buck bud!
