Pulled some cards today and found spots to set up a few blinds. This is for a new property. Lots of doe and it is adjacent to a massive field used for grazing. I'm hopeful the right will drive bucks on to the land. Lots of edges too. Oct 1 can't come soon enough
Good work on the doe Vermont and congrats to you Jedi on your first pork sausage with the bow. I filled my buck tag in Wyoming yesterday with a small mule deer. I was a spot and stalk hunt and the third stalk of the day. I shot right under a 140-150 buck the morning before and was 36 yards from a 170 buck right before I arrowed the one I took. Frankly, the hunt was awesome regardless of the buck's size. It is raining today so getting back out there won't be possible for a few days so I'm glad I took the buck I did. I haven't scored him yet and pics are on my phone so I'll have to see if I can put one on here for you to at least see him. I'll write up a story of the hunt later. Going antelope hunting the next couple of days and then try to fill a doe deer tag. Come on out Clinton, we're having a blast!
Back in the blind today. Gonna go scout some new ground when I get out. So far 2 doe down. I've only seen a 4pt buck so far while hunting, I let him walk. Looking for a typical 8 or better. I'd take another doe too. Big family!
Congrats JGD! Any spot and stalk on a deer is tough. I remember watching the hunt JZ was on last year out there and it's not easy. Well done!
Looks like we're getting some points on the board early this year! Well done everyone! The only bright side to my deer hunting season so far is it can't get much worse. I see fewer and fewer deer every time I sit it seems. But I'm keeping a positive attitude. Archery only is over but the general season starts in a week and a half and the weather has been getting cooler so that's a bonus. Keep up the hard work everyone!
Have to wait until the 1st. I should have at least 1 place to go hunt that day. I put my name in a draw for some public land in my area. Hopefully I get in. I have a pretty sweet advantage in that I work from home and set my own hours...that means I hunt weekdays and not weekends. I've been doing some serious scouting on this other piece of semi-public land I have access to. If I do about a mile walk in, there is a swamp that backs up to a big cliff. The cliff side is edged with conifer and the other sides are hardwood. I'm excited to scout it next week! (they don't let you scout until they give you their permit - which is Sept 18 for me).
Congrats on the Muley! I'm feeling good about our chances of winning this thing this year. I feel lucky, my season opens September 24. Everything is set and ready to go on my end. Shot the bow again today and everything felt good. I've just been working on getting all my gear scent free and packed up. Forecast is calling for a high of 76 opening day with a West wind. It's gonna be hot but I'll still get out and at least go ahead and try and whack a doe.
If we all "wack a doe" it would only take a couple of decent bucks and a couple of small bucks to seal the deal. Its very doable. I think we have a good team this year.. we should def be in the running.
Heck Yeah Got the 2 blinds up and brushed in to day and the landowner was taking of the hay. Set up 3 trail cams and ready for October 1st , 2 weeks to let the deer get used to the blinds and then it's kill time! I hope ,dang leg was really sore ,I ended up over doing it, fell 5 times, damn tough walking on uneven ground . Now to site the crossbow in and I'll be ready. Good luck everyone. Rocky
