Plans for the weekend are a beach house with friends near Monterrey. We're gonna eat a lot of seafood and drink a lot of beer! I'm gonna make some jambalaya and gumbo too. Happy Labor Day everyone!
Hillbilly that sounds awesome. I make gumbo when it gets cool. Reminds me of when I lived in NOLA. Enjoy!
Hitting the stand later today, after I put the kids on the bus. Second day of VT's bear season. Wish me luck, will have bow in hand. Seen a few this year. Will be waiting for 200 + pounder, no little guys.
Hangin in the stand. I have day time photos of a couple bears this year. I'm in a climber on a side hill adjacent to an old logging road on my property in central VT. I'm surrounded by berry bushes and a bee hive in a stump about 18 yds away, looks like a bear has already hit it once or twice. Just gonna sit til 1-2 and see what happens.
What broadhead is everyone shooting this year? I was thinking about trying a new one. I tried the G5 striker last year. I heard good things about them flying quieter and more true than the montecs. I heart shot a healthy, mature buck slightly quartering away and the broadhead stopped on the back side of him. When i got in there there I noticed there was pretty severe head damage and a blade was missing. After looking at the heart I noticed I actually lost a blade before the hear since there was only two cuts in it. Yes, they seemed to fly good, but it made me question their durability. I did some test shooting of the 2nd head in targets and the ground and the blades did get bent up but did not lose any. So to me, they do not seem to hold up the best. Definitely do not want the head falling apart before even getting to the vitals. Anyway, I have one striker left in my quiver and a couple rage 2 blades leftover from previous years unused. I was looking at the QAD Exodus. Tests and reviews are they fly good, very durable and sharp, and penetration is exceptional.
I shoot Muzzy 3blade 100gr fixed. I like them but the blood trail was weak on the only deer I've taken with them. However, the deer died about 100 yards from my stand.
I shoot Muzzy 100gr 3 Blade and have never had an issue. Last year I switched to Rage 2 blade Chisel tips, it was a disaster. I'm back to the tried and true Muzzys. They fly like field tips in my 300ft/sec Bear Lights Out. They shoot 3 inches low in my crossbow. If the blades bend you can buy replacements. Never had a blade fall out, only had one tip get messed up when the broad head hit a rock after a pass through. Tough broad head, will go through a shoulder blade and still pass through.
I am shooting the doublecross. Im going to try them out and see if I like them. If not Im going back to my tricons.
No bear from the stand today, but the last two days I had a sow and three Cubs at 11:45Am on camera. She didn't come in today. I wouldn't shoot her anyway, cubs are small, but would be cool to see. Try again tomorrow morning.
