All the hype leading up to this game referring to it as a "one game season" for Boise State was ridiculous. They made it out to be a bad thing for Boise. I don't see how. They basically play one game to get into the national championship game. Most teams would kill for that opportunity. And VT is an annual preseason overrated football team. I'm not saynig Boise couldn't do really well in some of the bigger conferences, but they won't have to bring their A game the rest of the regular season. The only way they don't go undefeated is by beating themselves. You can't play B ball and go undefeated in the bigger conferences. Again, Boise is talented enough to maybe win one of the BCS conferences, but the fact is, we will never know for sure. If TCU or Boise makes the NC game, they will never leave their conferences. Why would they? They can play one decent game to start the season, beat a bunch of really good high school teams in their conference, and play in the NC game. Why would any school give that up?
VT shows they are the most overrated program in the country yet again this year! Congrats to Boise.... They may play a weak conference schedule, but they have taken care of their business in every big game they have played in for the past few years... Give them some credit, don't hold it against the kids playing the game... Blame the administration. VT, Oregon, Oklahoma, TCU etc etc...
I don't hold anything "against" anyone. The kids are playing the hand they're dealt. Don't hold it agaisnt us, that everything we said is true, though. What's gonna REALLY suck is the kids at some other school (also playing the hand they're dealt) are gonna get screwed, either this year -- or one in the very near future -- if TBSU runs the table and one said bigger, better teams has A loss. Yeah.....maybe THE VT is over-rated. But, they were still favored to win over THE BSU. Now.....who do you believe most - the writers; the coaches or the people with something REALLY at stake ($$)? Somebody's gonna get screwed, soon. If it's THE OSU, I hope you still feel the same way.
Lets give credit where credit is due. Boise went from nothing to big time in a very short time and with very little to work with. It's really pretty special what they have accomplished. I would be proud as hell if I had an affiliation with their university. There are a lot of other AD's of teams in BCS conferences that have to be scratching their heads on how BSU did it.
All I know is Kellen Moore helped out his future income AGAIN last night. I watch football for entertainment...and that game gave me just that... Fall...football...and bowhunting - 'tis the season!
I'm not so sure about that. Unless he got another A on test last night. He is currently listed as the 17th best NFL QB prospect playing college football right now. Sure that could change as his college career goes on, or after combines/workouts before he enters the draft. Rigth now, he's small (6' 187) with a weak arm (by NFL standards). Not hating, just saying. The guy is a good college QB though.
I am not holding anything any of you said against anyone, just conversation. If Boise makes the NC game... And wins, are those other one loss big Conference schools still screwed by Boise going to the NC game? I am not for or against them, If a one loss OSU misses the NC game in favor of Boise, to me... Thats life and would not feel that they got screwed. Each program controls their own BCS destiny.
I'm sure these should be looked at on an individual basis. But, if I had to give you a blanket answer......in a word.....YES.
Sure.... THE OSU loses to Miami in week 2 or 3. Other than that, they run the table. THE Alabama goes undefeated. THE BSU goes undefeated. Now....can YOU come up with a scenario where the best two teams in the nation don't get to play each other for the NC?
I agree with Hook, this is incorrect. i.e. '04 Auburn Tigers went 13-0 and did everything they needed to do to be in the NC, but were left out.
Let me give you another spin on this, Scott. When I played ball in college (my last 3 yrs), we were an NAIA school. We were pretty good in our div.. But, there's NO WAY we had the talent to compete with DI schools on a regular basis. Another "but".....we could play with ANY of them, one-game-shot. We played +/- 5 DI teams/yr., and were typically 2-3/3-2 in those games. As a team, WE got up for those games. Did they (our opponents)? I can tell you, from being in the other dugout, that "we" didn't (to the same extent). Football's different than baseball. Conceded -- just not TOTALLY different. The way teams either get "up" or not for the matchup is human nature. THE BSU has to get up for a couple games a year, then fight against resting while the other teams they're playing are getting up for them. That's no easy task. But, it's a lot easier when those teams are Toledo; Fresno State and Utah State....in lieu of Michigan; Penn State and Iowa.
Same for the '09 Cincinatti, TCU, and Boise State. All finished the regular season undefeated, and all left out of the NC game. The only teams that control their BCS destiny are the ones that will make the NC game if they go undefeated, no matter who else is undefeated. I read this stat somewhere recently...no team ranked outside of the preseason top 5, have ever made the BCS NC game. Not sure if its true, but if it is, its another example of why the preseason polls are lame.
