Yes...I'm talking about THE Boise State University......and THE Virginia Tech.. They're playing in THE Georgia. Who's gonna win?
Let me get this off my chest. You guys know I roll with Alabama and I am an SEC homer. Boise State has ALOT, let me repeat, ALOT of talent. Pretty much the whole team is returning from the team last year.....BUT They play in a very weak conference, with a VERY weak schedule so therefore I want them to loose to keep from hearing this whole should they or should'nt they play for the title mess. They should jump to one of the big boy conferences while they are recruiting teams. You never heard them mentioned with the big 10 etc...they just play too weak of a schedule for me to get on the bandwagon. I do not think it makes them less of a team, or less prepared. I think it makes them ALOT more fresh at the end of the year when they have been beating up on nobody's for 12 weeks. based on this I hope VT wins, although I think they are really over rated as well. Just wanted to add, I wish Alabama was not the preseson#1...
Shed, I knew you would chime in at some point. I know you are familiar with the program and live their so you are much more in the know then ESPN allows me to be. Please understand that Jeff and I (and many many others) give the squad alot of respect, but until they play teams on their level each week, it is hard to grant them the pass, Their schedue goes 2 deep and then the last 10 games are ones in which ya'll will be favored by 20 or more...I would really love to hear your true thoughts on this, as your opinion has been so un-biased about alot of things over the years. Problem is you are probably to busy to respond because you are chasing elk, bear or some other critter I cannot chase...while I type about football on the dang computer
I personally am tired of the "big" conferences being so overrated. Games are won and lost on the field. Their are many players from the small conferences going to the nfl so the argument that the small conferences have an easy schedule all year doesn't hold water. Their are many teams in the small conferences who would love to play Duke, Indiana, lately Michigan, Northwestern, Wake forest, Washington, Arizona state,Stanford, Notre dame and many other schools from the alleged power conferences during the regular season to get a breather from their conference schedules. It is my understanding that Boise state has tried to schedule alot of the powerhouse schools for nonconference games but noone wants to take a chance at ruining their season with a loss to boise state.
All you need to do is remember back when BYU was winning national championships by simply going undefeated.
Was that when they had Ty Detmer, before the national championship game was established? Also wasn't that when their were the five bowl games on new years day and that was it.Or as I like to say, the good old days.
I typed a big reply but I think I can get my point across better in saying this...you have to take into account how many bigger, faster and stronger players these schools from the bigger conferences have because even though they may not go to the pros you still have to bang with them week in and week out. That adds up to injuries, nagging pain, a step slower etc... I am by no means nocking Boise, they are one of the teams that are bigger, faster and stronger...unfortunatly most of their schedule is full of teams who are not.
VT seems to be ranked high every preseason, then falls in the rankings by seasons end. Boise has been the exact opposite, starting low and working their way to the top. But, I am torn on this game. I hope Boise wins, but I am not so sure they will.
Boise is running the show so far...I do agree with the weak schedule argument. Afterall, I'm a psu fan, and their schedule is also notoriously weak, and I hate it.
IMO, it's just not good for college football. Think about it this way. If THE Boise State wins tonight, you have (according to which poll you look at) the #3 or #5 ranked team in the country....beating the #10 team......and also basically playing THEIR national championship game at the same time. If you're a THE OSU/THE Alabama/etc... fan, you'd best hope your team doesn't lose. If you do, this might just be the year you get pencil-whipped.
A great game. Lot's of penalities,so some sloppy play, but it was a great game to watch. Botched extra points and missed field goals added to the sloppiness. Probably just first game jitters.
Mark my word...... Some REALLY good football team will get pencil-whipped at the end of the season. ALL that happened last night is.....the No. 5 or No. 3 team beat the No. 10 team (a team they were getting points from.....which should really make you think, anyway). What will ensue, if - like predicted - TBSU runs the rest of their cupcake schedule, is gonna be unfortunate. Just my opinion. But, if you wanna run and be considered in the same class as the big boys..............you have to get out of the tottler conference.
