Even though i am a Packers fan, i live in the heart of Browns territory. Obviously the media around here is blowing up. Hooker is right, RB's are a dime a dozen, but Trent had top 10 talent, and they gave up so much in the draft to get him (two 4ths and a 7th i think?) and then in return are going to get at BEST a 23rd or 24th pick next year. Terrible, just terrible. He was there 2nd best player.
They have already paid the piper to take him that early. And they now don't have a back at all really. I agree though he certainly isn't an AP, but he's top 5-10 material... What do they expect from a first round pick? You don't trade a guy who finishes 7th in TDs his rookie season for a draft pick. He will shine now that he has an actual threat at QB the defenses have to respect.
They realize now that Richardson was not worth all of that, and not worth a 1st round pick, but they received a 1st round pick for him. The Browns need a QB. Until they get a real QB, they aren't doing anything. Richardson was not going to help them win more games. I have no problem with this trade. As far as Richardson having top 10 talent, show me the difference in production from the #9 RB, and the #17 RB last year. I doubt they are much different.
Why not? If it helps you secure what you really need, it would help your team. So you admit that a QB is more important?
On THAT team, 3.5 yd/carry is pretty damned good.... They're just THAT bad... He was a decent runner on a terrible team, and he also had 51 receptions last years, making him pretty valuable as a "check-down" guy. I'd suspect he was asking to be moved, or he'd gotten in some domestic dispute there in Cleveland, or something so they moved him.... They need far more than a QB, they need a whole set of skills players, which is WHY this is a terrible trade. He is a decent Skills player, and Weeden isn't that terrible a QB, look what Tom Brady is doing right now without out any skill players....
The Chiefs were a "terrible" team last year, only won 2 games. Here's Jamaal Charles line: G GS Att Yds Avg Lng TD Rec Yds Avg Lng TD FUM Lost 16 15 285 1,509 5.3 91T 5 35 236 6.7 22 1 5 3 That's the kind of stat line that a Top 5 running back puts up on a terrible team.
They may well of traded his mouth away as his feet, a new team doesn't need a whiner, he won't be missed in the whole scope of things.
With 2 1st rounders next year they put themselves in position to make a run at Bridgewater. There is no one on that Browns roster that can play QB. Like Hook stated, you can find a serviceable back on the cheap, you can't do that at QB. Still doesn't excuse taking him 3rd last year, but let's be honest, they weren't going to win this year anyways.
Hurts to say this, but I think Hook is right on. QB's win Super Bowls not RB, AP is the prime example, Vikings aren't going anywhere with Ponder even though AP is without a doubt #1.
True, but he was coming of a blown up knee. I'm just pointing out that a 3.5 yard per carry average is pedestrian at best, even as a rookie. Charles rushed for a 5.3 average his rookie season. AP averaged 5.6, Frank Gore 4.8, Marshawn Lynch 4.0, Doug Martin 4.6, Chris Johnson 4.9, Arian Foster 4.8, Ray Rice 4.2, Steven Jackson 5.0 during their rookie season. I'm not saying he isn't going to be a decent back, but I'm saying you can replace that kind of production pretty easily.
Yea...But they dont gain anything by trading Trich. Lets be honest...they were going to be bad anyways and have a low draft pick. The trade did not effect that at all. Now when they do draft a young QB, he is going to have NO run support. Stupid.
They don't have to pay him #3 pick salary. They can find a RB for half the price that will probably avg. 3.3 ypc. I'd say that is a win. And the trade gave them another 1st round pick, which they can use for a player with real value. A playmaking WR or TE are more valuable than RBs in today's NFL.
I think they did this so they would have 2 first round, 2 third round, and 2 fourth round picks. Hopefully they can find a franchise QB, and then stock up on WRs and CBs. This might make or break this front office, but there's no sense keeping someone who is injury prone who doesn't fit their offense. I know TRich was their best RB but saying he is their best offensive player is a stretch. Josh Gordon is their best offensive player and he's been out for a suspension. TRich lost weight this offseason so he could be faster, which is what the Browns are looking for. They want a fast back, not one who takes hits and gets hurt.
The Browns cant draft. Its a fact. So thats all on speculation. ...and the Browns have more cap space available then any other team...over 25 million. They had cash to pay players. ....and you are not going to pick up a huge difference making reciever/TE with a late 20s pick. A servicable starter...yea. But no Randy Moss. I just dont think it was a smart move is all. Benefit Indy here.
Oh it definitely benefits Indy. I just don't think it is such a horrible trade on the Browns part like a lot of people are saying. Now if they draft another RB in the 1st rd, then they are the dumbest franchise in the NFL.
Yeah but when they need to pay people like Joe Haden coming off their first contract, among the front seven on the defense who are proving themselves to be worthy, you'll be happy they have that cap space. The future is bigger than TRich. Do I like Richardson, yes. Do I wish they kept him at least through the season, yes. Is it necessary to build according to a plan of the future, yes. Just because the Browns previous front offices have made poor decisions doesn't mean we assume this one will. After last season do you think the Colts kicked themselves for getting rid of Manning even though he nearly took his new team to the super bowl? No. Because they had their future franchise QB.
I understand how Franchises work (Packers fan)...I just dont agree with the trade. Simple. Browns fans have already started with the "he wasnt good anyways" garbage. Its kinda funny actually. 3 weeks ago Richardson was a future MVP to these people LOL
