ya that sucks. my son was just in West Salem and shot him a doe the other day. he said it was a good day to test out his heavy base layers. haha.
Sheesh that's cold. I don't know if I have gear for that temperature. This weekend is going to be exciting here. The forecast high temp on Saturday is 70. The forecast high temp on Sunday is 27. That's a 43 degree drop in 24 hours. They are calling for thunderstorms, but I'm thinking weird things are going to be happening here weather-wise.
Back out with the orange army tomorrow.. extra 2 days of gun season this weekend. Family friend has been interested in some freezer meat so hopefully I can take a nice doe and make their holidays a bit brighter! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's been a while for me guys. I haven't been out in the woods in over 2 weeks. The last couple weeks i've been studying for my final exams and turning out a lot of jobs at work. Everyone's trying to get in their final projects before the first of the year so they can start next years projects. My company is shutting down between christmas and new years so i'll get a chance to get out and hunt. I want to get at least 2 more does for the freezer, a buck would be a nice addition too! Glad everyone has been doing good and hunting safe. I'll keep you up-to-date if i'm able to make it out this weekend. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Well went out kicked up a doe walking in and that's all we saw between 3 of us. Then my buddy decided to take our Kawasaki mule out for a joy ride after I told him not to... he rolled it. Front end is destroyed and he's lucky. He's banged up but the thing landed on his legs.. very lucky. So that cut our weekend short lol. On the way home might make it out back for a 45 minute sit, I'll keep ya posted if anything happens Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We ended up getting 2-3" of snow over the weekend. It got down below zero Saturday night. Sunday evening was awesome! I hunted our place. The stand we put up was just for this type of weather. The food plot is 2 acres total, 1 of corn and 1 of beans, both of which are still standing. There ended up being 15-16 total deer 6-7 of them were bucks. One buck was almost a shooter. I've been watching him for the 2 years that we've lived here. He has a broken G4 on his right beam. I'm guessing by looking at him the other night that he'd go low to mid 140's. We'll see what he looks like next year. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!!!!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! I'm off a couple days next week and will likely try to hunt a once or twice over the holidays, maybe I can pull something out before the season ends.
Going to try to get out tomorrow after work! Haven't shot my bow in awhile Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I went on a tundra swan hunt today in eastern nc to hopefully have my first chance at a monster bird. Left the house at 1:50am and got down there a little before 5am. We had a good time with a beautiful sun rise, multiple birds in shooting range and tagging out with one. We only had one tag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So I've taken 2 of my deer to the butcher... told I'd have them both back within 2 weeks.. took my buck there November 11th and I have not heard back from the guy. Buddy of mine also has 2 deer there and hasn't heard a thing. Dude Doesn't answer his phone, won't return voicemails I've gone up there 2 times and nobody has even been there.. what the hell should I do? I really want my bucks cape a job to go get it mounted and at this point that means more to me than the meat. That does make me sound Ignorant but I'm so proud of that deer I just want it back.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh no. You should have capped that deer before you took it. My cousin took a 140s class buck and that deer mysteriously disappeared. I hope the best man, hopefully he's just really busy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yeah I don't know why I didn't. I'll never make that mistake again. Went up there with some friends and pushed him around a bit, got my deers head and all the meat besides the jerky and smokies which are not done yet he claims.. without paying a dime. I know someone who took 650lbs of antelope meat there awhile back and hasn't heard back from him yet.. the guys a hack and a drunk. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Doing everything on my own from here on Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's a shame you had to deal with that. Glad you got your deer back! Not sure who you're getting to mount your deer but I got a family friend to mount mine, Crooked Horn in Londonderry Ohio. It may be a little to far but he does quality work for a fraction of the price. I paid $350 in 2011. He may be a little more expensive now since he's been doing it for a while. If you're interested, I can send pictures of the one I got mounted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice congrats man, something that I have wanted to do. Hopefully someday swan hunting will be open here in WI Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
