Just in case you guys looked at the scorecard and saw that I had 50pts, it isn't so. I contacted Fitz to let him know that I hadn't shot anything yet. I think he meant to give the points to Team 12 member WiscoBowHunter who did shoot a doe.
Looks like we have some cooler weather moving in Sunday and all of next week. My schedule also starts to open up a little bit the next couple weeks. Headed out of town again tomorrow but will be home by the weekend and have nothing on the books until late October for travel. Looks like hunting season is about to finally begin for me. I talked with a couple guys last weekend from down by my farm and neither has been seeing much, one has a good buck on camera but he is completely nocturnal. The numbers down there are still not recovering, the neighbor says he thinks the coyotes are decimating the fawns. My Dad said he has been seeing just a couple does and fawns and is yet to see a decent buck this year while checking cattle. He has always been quick to call when he sees a big boy and I haven't had that call in a few years, I miss it. Based on this and a couple other things I've seen myself I'm going to concentrate my efforts on a couple small acreages around Lincoln this year. I'll still go to the farm now and then but nothing like I usually do. I may not see Mr. Big, but at least I'll have a fighting chance of putting meat in the freezer. Hunting season used to be exciting and full of anticipation, now it seems like a waste of gas.
Here's the video to my hunt! Not very long at all happened in a spilt second!!! i promise better video on future kills!!!
Checked my trail cam put out some corn and a mock scrape today and let me tell you I'm so ready for opening day this weekend... Trail cam shows a group of 6 does coming by in the mornings and a group Of 4 bucks coming by in the evenings. One buck is borderline shooter I'll have to see him in person to determine what to do. This early in the season I will probably Pass on him Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's abnormally cool here in NC. It's a high of 73 here today. A little tropical storm is helping with that. And we're getting good rain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is how the food plot at the in-laws looks today. I know the brassica isn't even but it was the first time I had used the Earthway hand spreader.
I planted this plot on August 28th. We've had plenty of rain and, as for right now, plenty of heat and humidity. I didn't pull the card today, it was a quick in and out. There are plenty of tracks in and around the plot. From what I could tell it appears that all of the different varities that what we planted are growing. It also appears that the deer are still eating on the soybeans we left as a diversion until all the new growth gets some height to it. If I can catch it right, I'll fertilize Saturday morning before the forecasted rain. If I don't get the fertilizer down we'll just wing it.
