Well the crossbow was dead on and so was the compound but while I was shooting I noticed a big tree had fallen by one of my stands so I went to investigate and a big oak crashed 20 yards away from my stand. But while I was in there I noticed an extremely fresh rub line so I know they're shedding velvet in Ohio now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just for my new binoculars in the mail. I've been waiting on these for quite some time! They went on sale last year and I ended up not buying them, which o regretted. So I watched this year for them to go on the same sale and bought them. Can't wait to see how they do in low light! It'll be better than what I have now, I already know it. I know I'm a little late with the reply but congrats on the news!! Git'er done!!! Keep us posted on your success!!!
Well I went and talked to the farmer where I have been filming those big bucks and he has already leased out his farm to some of his relatives and their friends. There is still 40 acres in a different program on that farm that I can still hunt, but probably won't until around the rut. This is a perfect example of why I don't put all my eggs in one basket(farm), but it still sucks because of the bucks I have been seeing and felt pretty confident I could get on one of them early season.
I like my Vortex, last year I had an issue and they sent me a brand new pair in a couple weeks at no charge no questions asked. Great customer service.
Great to hear that! My stepdad got a pair last year and he loves them. I've heard nothing but good things, so I'm excited to see how they do. I especially can't wait until the frosty mornings. My old binos would fog over when I put them to my face. These are supposed to be fog resistant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So I went and looked at my food plot and after 3 weeks this is all I have got. No idea what's going on!! Going to spread some more seeds this week and hope it grows
I'm back home now. I didn't see anything the last two sits, so I came home empty-handed. I can't complain, though. I had some great encounters and even got to take a shot. Now that I'm on a computer instead of a phone, I can explain a couple of things. First, I didn't make a move on the buck I saw Thursday evening because when I walked out at dark I jumped a deer bedded along the wood edge. That deer wasn't bedded there when I walked in, and guess where the buck I saw was walking towards? I'm positive it was him that I jumped walking out, so I figured he would clear the area for a while. The shot opportunity I had: I said that the buck was trotting right to left, but that was backwards. He was trotting left to right. When I finally got a chance to read what I'd written it didn't make sense. I've edited it since then. I have to say that I'm surprised at only seeing bucks, and good bucks at that. I'm not sure where the does are, but that is a target-rich environment and they are there somewhere.
I checked a trail camera today before I went to work. It was out a week (and I forgot to update the time and date after the batteries died, so don't pay attention to that), I had several tom turkeys on it and a couple does. The last few pictures were of 2 different bucks using a licking branch. Nothing spectacular but look to be 3 year old.
I hope to do the same this weekend too. We'll see. It should start cooling off this Thursday as a front passes through. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I assume you didn't use last years seed right? There could be a number of variables for the reason why they didn't germinate. Probably the two most common would either be seed depth was too far down and then rain, either too much rain or too little. But gaging by some green areas in the plot I would guess you did get some rain. Keep us updated on if you reseed and don't hesitate to holler if you need any help in trying to narrow down what happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just by looking at it, did you use a cultipacker on the seed? If not, did you have a hard rain after you planted it? If you did have a hard rain, it could've driven the seed too deep with the real loose soil. I guess I should ask when you planted it. I'm sure you're like us over here on the west side, we've had some long hot and dry stretches followed by toad stranglers for rain.
I planted it about the 10th October. It was new seed that I got a few maths bk. I didn't cultipack. As for rain it was a medium rain that lasted all day about 2days after I planted, then we have had a good rain at least once a week since then. But Based on what you guys have said I'm thinking it was down to the rain based on the part that is growing is under a large oak tree which would have calmed the rain down before hitting the ground. Thanks for the help But on a positive note opening day is only 3 days away
Well I'll be out tomorrow afternoon!!! More than excited!!! Season opens up today but I can't make it out tell tomorrow!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
