Wow, sorry to hear about that. I bet you'll be able to hunt deer this fall, being determined as you are.

    Good luck.

Hang in there and stay positive, Doug. If anyone can do it, it's you! None of us are going out to CO, btw. Pops says he'd rather wait a year, in hopes that you'll be recovered. I think they're settled on Nebraska mulies, instead. He sends his prayers and best wishes, as do the rest of us. I'll be heading out to the cabin in the near future to set a few more stands. I'll give you a shout in advance.. maybe swing in and visit, if you're up for it. Kick back, relax and heal up bro!!

Thanks for all the prayers and positive thoughts guys, it's a very frustrating time right now, and I know I need to be patient, but my patience aren't the greatest. I'm doing lots of range of motion to keep the workings in the joints, but not getting back an awful lot yet. There's still a lot of swelling in my neck, which is probably part of the problem, but only about 10% of the people will regain FULL function, I'm sure hoping to be in that small minority. It's very sobering when it's YOU that the statistic happens to. It's gotten so bad that Beer doesn't even sound good!!!

Doug I am so sorry to hear of your misfortune. May God bless you and heal your injury completely. Glad you had good doctors and surgeons to aid you in your healing. As other have said focus on your recovery, stay emotionally strong, and the elk and deer hunting will be yours again. Perhaps we should wrap you in bubble wrap 3 months before your hunts to keep you safe. Stay strong and focused my friend, you will be in my prayers. HH in Pa

Trying to stay positive, I know I have almost 2 months before bow season, and hopefully, I'll be able to shoot again in the next few weeks. Left are is still very weak with limited function, but I'm doing a lot of stretching/strengthening exercises to try to get it back. Considering the results some people have had with similar injuries, I really should be counting my blessings, and I have many.

    I hear ya brother

Right now I am being discharged from the military for a broken back and neck. It's a life changing experience but you gotta just drive on and use every ounce of motivation you got to keep fighting. Our bodies may never be the same but as long as the will isn't broken you'll be good to go. Hope all is going better for you and your family.

Doug, I have been right where your at, I am fused in 5 of mine.. thoracic... area.. Give me a call if I can be of any help. I can relate.. you are going to recover it does take time though. Hang in there, keep the faith and know that that fusion probably saved you from paralysis and or death.. I know mine did as I was unstable in my fractures.. 208 691 6098 if you would like to visit. Take care and you are in my prayers. Keep your head up man, the big man upstairs kept you around because he knows you have plenty of work left to do here!

Just a little update, I was able to brush my teeth and do most of my EATING without the "assistance" of my right hand to my LEFT. Seems like a small thing, but this is going to be a "baby steps" recovery, I'm beginning to see. I found out that a kid my brother's age has Brain Cancer and has been having troubles, and it was a stark reminder that things could be far worse than what I'm dealing with now. I once was told "Gold would never give you more than you could handle." And even used that line once on a retired minister who was a very disgruntled patient of mine, helping re-adjust his attitude towards his situation. I need to keep that in mind many times a day and keep a positive attitude. I may not hunt this year, but I WILL be able to shoot my bow again, and I WILL hunt again, I'm just not sure on what time table that will be. Until then, I need to be focused on being a good husband, father, friend, and overall person, and the rest will follow in suit. Many thanks for the many prayers and well wishes as I believe they ARE indeed helping me. God Bless and Happy Hunting to each of you in return I hope God blesses each and every one of you in his own way as I know he has already blessed me.

    Doug,
I had fusion to my c5-c6 vertibre 3 years ago. Yes...I now have a cadiaver bone, metal plate and 4 screws in my neck. It was a tough couple of years to fully recover.

After a year I sold all of my archery hunting gear...I didn't think I was ever going to be able to confortably hunt again. Well I was wrong...it took another 1.5 years but I am now back to normal...I am 58 btw.

I am in Michigan so I bought a new xbow. I just bought a new Summit Viper climber....Yesterday I practiced using the climber...cocking the xbow in the stand and shooting from all kinds of positions in it. I am going to do the same thing today if the rain holds out...I am pain free now and able to do the things I did before....

Keep working on it...you WILL get back there.
