Thinking about trying out some new broadheads.... What do you guys shoot or have heard good reviews on?
There are lots of good brands out there. First I would decide if I wanted to shoot fixed blades or mechanical broad heads. Then go from there
I'm not really familiar with any of the broadheads out there other than the big names like rage and muzzy which is why i'm making this post so any would be great... I would prefer fixed due to there being no chance of mechanical error but if there are any good mechanicals out there that is fine as well
I personally don't care for mechanicals but you will get a lot of people praising rage. I shoot muzzy mx3's and my new favorite is the trophy taker Shuttle T Locks they are nice and solid. But get what you like and what you shoot well.
I shoot muzzys right now, just wanted to branch out a bit. One of my buddys shoot the shuttle t locks and said they are great. Might have to try em out!
i used crimson talon last fall and shot a nice 8 point dead within 100 yardds, but NO blood trail i mean little specs every 10 yards. I used rage this fall shot one doe from 3 yards in the gut and never found her, partly my shot failure, but also i dont know whether or not it opened we will see what happens with my next deer, but if i dont get good results, ill sell the rages to a buddy of mine and go with bloodrunners.
They're pretty much fixed/mechanical you get a 2 1/8" cut when they open and a 1" cut when they don't. I think it would be rare to have them not open up fully with today's bows. Check them out here. http://cutsnomatterwhat.com/index2.htm
A good freind of mine use to shoot Rage.... He shot a doe last year. When we went to get his arrow, one of the blades was broken and the other jammed behin the o-ring. We found the doe after tracking about 300 yards with little blood and come to find out, only one of the blades opened and it was the one that was cracked in half... It would take alot to trust Rage even though the broadhead may have had some damage prior to the shot. Just not worth it to me. Bloodrunners look great though and I've been looking around since I made this thread and they have great reviews... Haven't heard much on the two blades though, didn't even know they existed until posted above. Still looking around though so more opinions would be great! As of right now i'm leaning toward the bloodrunners
Wow.... They look great!! How do they deply though? When the blades aren't deployed it looks like there isnt anything to make them deploy. Thanks for your help!
RAGE.3BLADE. MASSIVEHOLE. ever hear of the phrase let the floodgates open? rage 3 blades are the definition of that! :D
I shoot slick trick magnums, 100 grain. Its a four blade and a 1 1/8 cut. This year I shot a buck in WI with them, it was a 25 yard shot, the buck made it about 60 yards from that point and took a dirt nap. The blood trail was very easy to follow, no problem at all. And I have a light set up with only 50lbs and the broad head went into the opposite shoulder so they are dependable.
Seems like there's a spring in there and when pressure is applied to the front the blades slide open. Try and get your hands on one and it'll be easier to understand. I've had experience with 2 of my friend's deer, my dad's deer, my deer, and my bear all taken with the 2 blade and not once has there been any type of problem. There's always been a great entrance and exit wound (when there was a pass through.)
Those were actually the first broadheads i ever had... I wasnt a fan of them because i couldnt get my blades to keep from wiggling around and making A LOT of noise! I may have but them together wrong, im not sure... Have you had this problem?
Oh alright, I like the idea that even if they fail to deploy they still cut a good size hole... Gonna have to try em out most likely!!
